Four Young Lions

Says analyst Bill James, referring to Joey Votto, Edinson Volquez, Jay Bruce and Johnny Cueto, "They have four young lions everybody would love to have."

Predict the 2009 season numbers for each (I know its early but I'm excited).

Votto: .275, 30 HR, 95 RBI, 10 SB, 45 2B

Volquez: 16-12, 3.60 ERA, 175 K

Cueto: 15-13, 3.25 ERA, 200 K

Bruce: .280, 38 HR, 110 RBI, 8 SB, 40 2B

Re: Four Young Lions

Votto will be closer to .300 if not over.

Volquez will be closer to 3.0 era

Cueto and Bruce look about right.

Wow. If they play that well, you should be excited about next year.

An accurate post IMO. I see Votto as a + hitter, who happens to hit HRs, ala Paul O'Neill or dare I say Will Clark. Volquez will be a rock-solid pitcher, (he's smart enough to figure it all out and dominate). Cueto and Bruce should have learned a lot in'08, and I am expecting both to get better and better. The future is getting brighter...........

Re: Four Young Lions

The doubles seem to be a bit high for Votto and I think he will get to 100 RBIs but the rest looks about right

Re: Four Young Lions

I definitely see Volquez reaching 200 K's more than Cueto. I think Cueto has amazing stuff but I think 2008's success is exactly what a player like Volquez needed to become a top pitcher in the NL.

I would be careful when predicting stats like runs or RBI, they are highly circumstantial and at this point no one really knows what the reds lineup is going to look like next year with the entire offseason still to come.

I think Votto will have a higher average, but the rest looks close

Volquez would have more k's

I think that's a stretch for Cueto for next year...I'd say era closer to 4.00

For Bruce, I'd say the dingers are a bit high. Maybe 28-30
