Congratulations, Joe Gordon.
Long overdue. Graduated from the same High School as Heisman Trophy Winner and ONLY College Athlete to win the Sports' Illustrated Sportsman-of-the-Year, Terry Baker, and the same High School as Mel Renfro, Baker's High School Teammate, and many other pro athletes. When Gordon retired, he was the All-Time Homerun Leader for Second Basemen, but he was most famous for his outstanding defensive play. AL MVP of 1942, 9-Time All-Star, and 5-time World Champion with both Cleveland and the Yankees. 1/2 of the only trade that was ever Manager-for-Manager, and in exactly 1000 career games with the Yankees he had exactly 1000 hits. Way to go, Joe. He was also Joe Dimaggio's roomate for many years. |
