TOBTTReds, you may think it was a ridiculous statement that there was consideration to releasing Young. Sorry. My source was Wayne Krivsky in April while he was still GM and Young had basically dropped off to the point of being used as a mop-up man in his third year in the Midwest League. My bad. I need to find some better sources.

Just my mom. She's a year younger than Ayers though and moved from Springfield to Bellefontaine/Indian Lake in for her senior year.

In the early 90's we lived in State College, PA. My mom's office was across from a Damon's restaurant. One day she noticed the OSU basketball team (in town for a game vs PSU) pull up for lunch. So she headed over and had a quick little 20 year reunion. Apparently he didn't have the afro she remembered.

There is a reason Wayne isn't here anymore

Sorry to sound harsh. If Wayne had consulted anyone but himself, there is no way TY gets released. I'm not going to name my sources to justify mt comments either. But there is just no reason to release him. Unless you thought he was a bad apple that was ruining the bunch. He had some marks on his personal record, and that may be why he was held back more than his performance.

Also, it was his second year in the Midwest, 7 innings doesn't count as a year at a level.

Re: Reds to lose Terrell Young in Rule 5 Draft...

No GM would demand that a player be released based on performance if there were objections from his key player development people. All I am saying is that they were running extremely short on patience with Terrell early in the season and it was within the realm of possibility that he could have been released out of A-ball. Terrell is not a bad apple at all, though he did have one significant issue this season. He comes from a very different background and you may know that, interestingly enough, he did not start playing baseball until the high school coach saw him playing dodgeball in the gym and asked him to come out for the baseball team.

Anytime a player is moved up a level despite the fact that he did not do anything on the field to show he should be moved up (as was the case when Terrell was moved from Dayton to Sarasota), it is either because there is a need at that position at a higher level, or because they have determined that they have nothing to lose by moving the player up and finding out if he is going to "sink or swim." If he had performed poorly in Sarasota, I believe that would have been the end of the line for him.

Re: Reds to lose Terrell Young in Rule 5 Draft...

* Don't expect to see Rule 5 draft pick Terrell Young again this spring training. Though he is now beginning a throwing program with pitching coach Randy St. Claire, the first step back after a right shoulder flare-up, Manager Manny Acta said today that the exhibition season could be over by the time Young is ready to go. This all but end Young's chances to stick on the 40-man roster. The team can retain the 23-year-old if it works out a trade with Cincinnati, Young's previous team.

Should the Reds take Terrell Young back? I think the Reds should unless they get a good offer from the Nationals. It seems like he had a injury. This way Reds can get him back and put him on the Minor League DL or send him to extended Spring training.

They can place him on the DL while keeping him on the 40 man roster. If they place him on the 60 day DL, they free up the spot. The caveat is that he must be active for 90 days in the season, so if he isn't, the time to keep him on the 40 man roster will be extended into next season. This is from Wikipedia and I'm fairly sure it correctly states the rule.

Quote:
To prevent the abuse of the Rule 5 draft, the rule also states that the draftee must be active for at least 90 days. This keeps teams from drafting players, then placing them on the disabled list for the majority of the season. For example, if a Rule 5 draftee was only active for 67 days in his first season with his new club, he must be active for an additional 23 games in his second season to satisfy the Rule 5 requirements.
