Re: I learned that the hard way
When someone says, "I've never done this before..." chances are pretty good they have, in fact, done that before.

Re: I learned that the hard way
I worked in a factory during the summers while in college. Because I sweat so easily, I'd be fairly sweaty in the hot factory within a short time of being at work. It was great. I could do nothing and the foreman thought I was the hardest worker around.

But you need it half full to keep your doilies from blowing into your potpourri.

Re: I learned that the hard way
When driving a nail, never place your finger in such a position that there is even a minuscule chance that it can be struck by the hammer. A similar rule should apply to cutting things with knives. My hands have scars dating back to childhood that attest to the fact that I have not always heeded this advice.

Re: I learned that the hard way
I think I mentioned this once here before, but- though they look the same, yellow cake mix and pancake batter do not taste the same.
And I'll tell one on my father: When I was 16, he excused himself from the table to "go take a vitamin." Seconds later, from the kitchen, I hear my father making choking sounds. It was pretty awful. "Are you okay?" I asked. "Man, that vitamin was tough to swallow. That didn't go down smooth at all," he said. "Dad, that was a Flinstone chewable vitamin. You aren't supposed to swallow it whole." My father was almost killed by Barney's tail.
