Sad to say, I don't have the spirit this year. Financially, I'm kinda in the dumpster, mostly my own fault. I was demoted at work, I have two teenagers added to my car insurance, pushing it close to my house payment in size. I want to think about the things that make this season matter, but as I am not religious, I'm seeing it as a season of "I want" instead of "what can I do for you."
My kids are pretty bright, they get it about our finances, but I feel like i am letting them down. I might have gotten out of the stupid hole I have dug for myself had this not been the holiday season. What's worse is that while I have two weeks off (paid) for the winter break, I don't get paid again until Jan. 31. That's a loong ways away. Please understand, I'm not looking for pity or best wishes. I am in fact using this as an outlet to rant a bit. It's something I cannot do to my family. They at least deserve to enjoy the holiday I cannot. I know some of you are going through tougher time than me. Some of you have been laid off, some are ill, some going through personal crises. My thoughts are with you as much as I can spare them. For me and likely for you, Redszone is a bit of an escape. One my wife sometimes does not understand, but she at least condones it. I hope each and every one of you has a safe and happy holiday.
