Re: Sean Casey Retires

Sean was/is a class act, both in and out of baseball. Best of luck to Sean. One of my favorites. The only player to do the "macarena" before every pitch at the plate, even if he didn't swing just had to do the batting gloves again.

Re: Sean Casey Retires

This is a baseball career ruined by the steroid era. Teams wanted a homerun guy to play first base(thanks mark), not one who gets the job done.

Re: Sean Casey Retires

He never turned out to be good as I thought he would be. I thought he could be a .300 25 90 guy year in and year out. It is hard to believe he lasted only a little over 10 years. It seems like it was not too long ago when he was the future of the reds.

I have to agree with your assessment, although I did like Sean and thought he was a quality person and decent b-player.

I envisioned him being more of a Paul O'Neill type hitter, though. He never quite reached that.

Re: Sean Casey Retires

Had the Reds never have gotten rid of him he would still be a star! He was a GREAT player and person but the Reds, dumped his salary! What a tragedy!

He wasn't a star. he was a really good guy, who i still like, but i can't say i was upset when they unloaded him from a baseball aspect.

Re: Sean Casey Retires

I loved him as a person and as a player. He may not have become a huge star, but he was successful in other ways. He will have a wonderful post-baseball career. The success or failure of a baseball career can't be based merely on numbers - Casey left his mark on the game with his attitude and kindness. That is more rare than a .300, 25, 90 guy.

Don't know if it already said this or not, but he's joining mlb network. The Reds will be represented well with Casey, and Larkin.

Even his highest year(gidp) wasn't record breaking, it cracks me up that people say that crap and then defend Dunn striking out!
