A number keeps calling my cell phone...
973-792-8504
They've been calling for approximately 3-4 weeks, on the average of 25-30 times per week. It calls at all hours of the day/night -- sometimes waking me up at around 1am, sometimes while I'm in court, sometimes while I'm out with friends. When I answer the phone, there's nobody on the other end and it just hangs up. If I send the call to voicemail, no message gets left. If I try to call them back, I get either a "This number has been disconnected" or a "This caller's mailbox is full, please try again later." Has anyone had any problems like this? If so, what have you done to combat it? Sprint has been extremely unhelpful, and I'm sick to death of seeing this number calling constantly.

Re: A number keeps calling my cell phone...
Sounds to me like it could be a collector or a scam trying to get your info - not suggesting that you owe anyone, but I've had this same phone problem in the past, and I've never been in debt in my life. I was able to track it down and it's someone calling from a collector's agency and I think they try to get information from you but only if someone picks up. They sometimes even leave a message with a number to call them back, but no one ever answers when you call that number. http://www.whocallsme.com is a site with a search for calls like these and you can see if others have experienced the same thing.

I was wondering the same thing. Aren't we almost obligated to prank call those people? Think about it, if no one prank calls those people then they might think that listing their phone number on an internet message board wasn't a stupid thing to do.

I'm going around tomorrow to a Verizon store and an AT&T store to see if either of those companies have the ability to call-blocking. If either one can, I'm calling up Sprint and demanding out of my contract because this is ridiculous. I even called the Newark Police Department to try and see if they had any information about this, but said they couldn't do anything without an address in their jurisdiction, since it could be another part of 937 area code, like Belleville or Nutley (I have family back east ).Ugh.

Could be Jenny, from 867-5309 fame, getting everyone back for calling her?

Re: A number keeps calling my cell phone...
They're still calling -- four times in the past two days, though none so far today. Like I said, though, no rhyme or reason to any of it.
I'm stopping by AT&T and Verizon tommorrow while I'm out running my errands -- I'll see if either one of them can solve my problem if I switch providers. I was able to determine that the number is a landline phone number in New Jersey, but I can't tell much more about it than that. I haven't been able to get an address attached to the phone number. I called Verizon land-based service (who provides local phone service to North Jersey) and they said the number isn't one of theirs. The rep suggested that it might be someone using VOIP, which they wouldn't have control over (though they would be providing the DSL line that powered it), and would also explain the number being disconnected from time to time. The investigation continues...

Re: A number keeps calling my cell phone...
Maybe you would like to try www.intelius.com and see if they can get you the information you need. It is a fee based service but not too expensive.
Question: if you place your cell phone number on the 'do not call' list and they call you, assuming you can track them down, can you sue them and/or have the Federal Government levi substancial fines against them? Rem |
