13 Year Old Becomes Father

I saw this on another board I read. This is just scary...the kid looks like he's about 8.

What can you even say to a kid at that age when he tells you he knocked his girlfriend up? You're grounded from the TV for a month?

As a junior high teacher I can tell you that 13-year olds having sex is not that unusual, sadly. I had a seventh grade student become a father last year.

My wife subs and she thinks the majority of kids that age have had sex and certainly most high schoolers have. IMO, a sad commentary on things in society now.

I knew 13 years old having sex 35 years ago.. in swank neighborhoods in Charlotte and Detroit at least it's not a girl having to marry a 34 year old man because she was promised to him at birth.

It seemed that way when I was in high school almost 20 years ago. Of course, it was mostly all posturing.

Yeah, we all figured that the guys who were talking about it the most were the least experienced. Of course I graduated 22 years ago, so maybe things have changed a bit since then.

I saw photos of that poor lad with the baby, and he looked absolutely miserable in every picture. As if 13 isn't young enough, he LOOKS about 7 or 8. The mother looked like an amazon next to him, and she was probably an average 15 year old. It would be like if Bridget Nielsen and Webster posed together with a baby.

I believe the OP posted this article because he thought it was unusual for a 13-year old child to father a child, not specificallly a 13-year old British child. I think most of the posters who have replied are stating that it isn't unusual for 13-year old children to be having sex. Not 13-year old British or American children, just 13-year old children. Sure most of our knowledge is of 13-year old American children, but it still seems relevant to the article that was originally posted.

I'd love to share something insightful about the sexual exploits of 13-year old British children, I just don't know much about them.

I posted this article cause I read it on another message board and also read it posted by several friends postings on Facebook. It seemed to have gathered a lot of attention and discussion and I was surprised no one posted it here.

I have no care whether the father was American, British, or whatever. This has nothing to do with cultures and cultural norms or comparing anything.

I am absolutely amazed that so many 13 y/o's are sexually active. That just blows my mind. Maybe that's what I get growing up in a generally subrurban area with most of my friends waiting until at least high school or after high school to become sexually active (that I know of).

Ah yes a beautiful story but if the ages were flipped and she was 12 and he was 15 something tells me he would be getting brought up on charges.
