Re: Official 2009 Redszone NFL Mock Draft:

Hi, I'm Scot McCloughan, and my team, the San Francisco 49ers, sucks. Unfortunately, both big-name quarterbacks, Matt Stafford and Mark Sanchez, are gone, so we're going to hold off on having hope for the future until next year's draft, when we use the overall #1 pick to grab a QB, preferably one with larger hands not made of butter.

Malcolm Jenkins was another guy we wanted, and we even considered Vontae Davis, another cornerback, but ultimately, we decided that we won't really need to defend the pass so much since we'll be losing all the time. With that said, we decided to head in the direction of linebacker.

We already have a great core on defense, including Justin Smith, Ahmad Brooks, and Takeo Spikes (and to a lesser degree, Patrick Willis), so we were hesitant to settle on a linebacker, but the chance to have both Manny Lawson and another excellent speed rusher on the outside was too much to pass up.

With that, I would like to announce our pick for the 2009 NFL Draft, Brian Orakpo, outside linebacker, University of Texas.

Needless to say, Orakpo is off the chain. He is a native-born Texan, so we thought San Francisco would be the perfect place for him, giving him a chance to spread liberal views throughout our conservative city. He also has some experience at tight end, which could come in handy once Vernon Davis inevitably gets himself suspended for doing something really stupid. I really hate that guy. Anyway, Orakpo looks good in mud colors, which fits in perfectly with our 49ers theme. I believe the biggest advantage to picking Orakpo is that even if he turns out to be a bust, which is extremely possible, it will be at a position that won't cripple us too much.

We are very proud to bring Orakpo into camp and get his "professional" career stared. This pick will break or break the future of our team, and I am very excited to get this season over with. Buffalo Bills, you are now on the clock!

Yes being a tight end could come in handy in SF.

Re: Official 2009 Redszone NFL Mock Draft:

The Buffalo Bills were crushed by that last pick as they had really wanted either Brown or Orakpo to team with their beast Aaron Schoebel. Luckily for the Bills there is still that special rusher on the board that can provide them with some speed off the end.

So with the 11th pick in the 2009 Redszone NFL Draft the Buffalo Bills select:

Aaron Maybin DE Penn State

Aaron was a huge part of Penn State's Defense last year and we believe he will continue to develop and grow under the guidance of Dick Jaroun.

Here are Aaron's combine numbers and scouting report:

Quote:
NFL Combine Results
40-Yard Dash 4.89
Vertical jump 38.0
Broad jump 10'4
20-yard shuttle 4.38

2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

person
Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State
Aaron Maybin has wasted no time in becoming one of the most productive pass rushers in college football. Maybin was highly recruited out of high school in Maryland, and came to Penn State in 2006. After redshirting his first year on campus, Maybin played in every game of his redshirt freshman year. He recorded 12 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and broke up a pass in coverage, in 13 games last season. Maybin came out of high school weighing only 220 pounds, but has already added 26 pounds of muscle. He has the frame to add more bulk without losing any speed, which is something NFL scouts will be looking at. Maybin has outstanding speed for an end, and is much stronger than his size would suggest. He does his best work coming off the edge and simply running by offensive tackles. Maybin isn't only a speed rusher though. He has excellent technique, and does a good job of using his hands to keep blockers from cutting his feet out from under him. Maybin took full advantage of his starting role this season, having tallied 49 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and even breaking up 3 passes in coverage. Maybin will be watched closely by NFL GMs because he has the potential to develop into a dominant and disruptive force. Maybin will likely be the first defensive end taken this spring, but NFL teams will likely have to wait for him to develop. He can help a team as a third down pass rush specialist in the beginning, but if he reaches his potential he could be a future NFL sacks leader.
The Denver Bronco's are on the clock.

Re: Official 2009 Redszone NFL Mock Draft:

Here is the thinking for the Redskins at the 13th pick....

Jason Campbell is desperate for a little help. The Redskins are in dire need of more playmakers at the WR position, but considering we spent THREE second round picks on pass-catchers last year, we must give them a chance to develop. If one of those three guys can turn into a reliable target, then we should be OK there with Santana Moss still being very effective at this stage in his career. Where Campbell needs the most help is staying upright. The Redskins offensive line was good to dominant through the first 6 games or so last season, but their age began to show as the season progressed and the line quickly became a major concern (especially on the right side).

The Redskins are set in the secondary and while an extra OLB would be nice, there isn't anyone available that totally blows our socks off. Even though the Redskins defense was quite good last year, the DL struggled-- especially in terms of generating a pass rush. We hope we've filled a major void with the signing of Albert Haynesworth-- his addition makes DT much less of a need.

But we are still in great need of a pure pass-rusher.

Our decision comes down to three people:

OT Michael Oher of Ole Miss
OT Andre Smith of Alabama
DE Larry English of Northern Illinois

Smith intrigues us the most, but his character and conditioning issues are a red flag. We don't feel we can take a risk at this point, so we remove him from our board. We love the idea of English, but he is under-sized and might fit a 3-4 scheme a bit better.

That leaves us with the safe choice, but it's a choice everyone in the room can feel good about.

With the 13th pick, the Washington Redskins select....Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

Do you think the Redskins would consider Smith because Chris Samuels, an Alabama alum, could mentor him?

No - you only have a couple of hours to edit your message and then option disappears. This is the only way we can do it.

Sorry, I've been asleep. Stupid 3rd shift schedule. I am headed to class until around 3:45. I will make the pick when I get home as I am a Saints fan and would like to make the pick.

If 2 hours is to long to wait feel free to make the pick Puffy, just don't blow it

No - if you like the Saints you can make it - - If I made it for you it would have been Vontae Davis
