Owings tonight...

Does he have a history of control problems? just curious, with the 5 BB's in 4 innings. Pretty impressive to have 11 baserunners in 4 innings, and only give up 1 run. In an unimpressive kind of way

He walks about 3 per 9 on average, which is right around league average

Good that he was able to "scatter" those walks.

I have always been in the Owings Camp in a big way. Glad he's looking good this spring.

Ahhh. He started last year off well and was in a great pitchers park but imploded. I think it could be a different story when he gets in a real game at GABP

He did shut down the Rockies at home in his first game last year. It's not like he's never pitched in a ban box before.

Re: Owings tonight...

One thing to remember about the 5th spot:

Even if Owings (or whoever pitches in that spot) has a 5.00 ERA this year, that will save the Reds around 50 runs compared to last year. The Fogg/Belisle/Bailey crew was dreadful last year. He doesn't need to be great, just not completely suck every time.
