Dream Reds lineup from your lifetime
Inspired by the tunabomber....
post your dream/favorite Reds lineup comprised of players that were on the Reds during your lifetime. Here is my lineup of my favorites from my favorite team (born in '78): 1. Joe Morgan - 2B 2. Chris Sabo - 3B 3. Barry Larkin - SS 4. Eric Davis - CF 5. Johnny Bench - C 6. Reggie Sanders - RF 7. Sean Casey - 1B 8. Dmitri Young - LF 9. Jose Rijo - SP My lineup could be all out of whack, as I don't remember exactly where each guy batted. And, again, these are my favorites at each position, not really who I think are the best. |

Re: Dream Reds lineup from your lifetime
Moved to Dayton in 2nd grade, so going from that point onward, here's the mid-80s-to-now roster I'd go with (all players presumed to be at their "Reds' Peak," i.e. I'm taking them based on their best performances in Reds uniforms):
POSITION PLAYERS C Benito Santiago/Eddie Taubensee (R/L platoon, or a DEF/OFF platoon, whichever you prefer) 1B Sean Casey 2B Brandon Phillips 3B Chris Sabo SS Barry Larkin LF Adam Dunn CF Eric Davis RF Ken Griffey Jr. BENCH OF Paul O'Neill (4th OF/DH/"Bench Presence") 1B/OF Dmitri Young (Switch-hitter, great PH option) IF Pokey Reese (late inning defensive specialist/pinch runner) UTIL Pete Rose (yes, post-Expos "Reds Peak" Pete; why? just because, dammit; Pete and O'Neill in the same dugout would be fun, too) C Santiago/Taubensee (as discussed above) STARTING PITCHING SP Jose Rijo (R) SP Aaron Harang (R) SP Tom Browning (L) SP Bronson Arroyo (R) SP Pete Harnish (R, scrappy SP who anchored the Reds' staff during some lean years, and whom I thus remember fondly) BULLPEN CL Jeff Shaw (R) RP Nasty Boy #1 (Norm Charleton, L; also a spot/emergency starter) RP Nasty Boy #2 (Rob Dibble, R) RP Nasty Boy #3 (Randy Myers, L) RP John Franco (L) RP Jeff Brantley (R) LONG Scott Sullivan (R, was on some of those staffs with Harnish and also defined hard-nosed "scrappiness," perennial 100 IP out of the pen, my kind of guy) MANAGER: Davey Johnson ON THE RADIO: Marty and Joe IN MY HAND: Miller High Life Last edited by FlightRick; 04-10-2009 at 05:04 PM. Reason: Add justification for having Pete on roster |

Re: Dream Reds lineup from your lifetime
Pete Rose 3b
Eric Davis..cf Dave Parker....rf George Foster....lf Johnny Bench....c Nick Esasky....1b Dave Concepcion...ss Oester...2nd I am picking Oester because I dont remember Morgan's days with the Reds as much. I rmember just enough of Rose. Foster was always my fav Red and I loved to watch Parker hit. Same with Esasky as far as power threat. ED was something special. |

Born in 1973.
I'd take my chances with this lineup against almost any other "best of" team during my lifetime... Re: Dream Reds lineup from your lifetime
I don't like doing these because it seems everyone has the same answers. For instance, no one would put Bip Roberts in there over Joe Morgan. Except me of course

Re: Dream Reds lineup from your lifetime
I'm going to give you my lineup, only with a twist. I'm taking the guys with the best names (and I'm not counting nicknames)
1B Nick Esasky (or Brooks Kieschnick) 2B Rick Wrona (or Danny Richar) SS Freddie Benavides (or William Bergolla) 3B Wayne Krenchicki (or EE) LF Max Venable (or Tony Tarasco) CF Cesar Cedeno (or Rolando Roomes or Quinton McCracken) RF Buck Coats (or Steve Gibralter or Ron Roenicke) C Dann Bilardello (or Sal Butera) Some real classics there...

Re: Dream Reds lineup from your lifetime
Here's my 25 man roster. I was born in 87 so I made the team from about 1993 on. I added the stipulation to my roster that the player had to have more than one year on the Reds; sorry Josh Hamilton and Greg Vaughn. Also I did not put Volquez, Votto, or Bruce on as they have played only one full season.
1. Barry Larkin - SS 2. Brandon Phillips - 2B 3. Ken Griffey Jr. - CF 4. Sean Casey - 1B 5. Adam Dunn - LF 6. Reggie Sanders- RF 7. Chris Sabo - 3B 8. Eddie Taubensee - C Bench: Hal Morris - 1B Bret Boone - 2B Ron Gant. - OF Deion Sanders - OF Jason LaRue - C Rotation: Jose Rijo Aaron Harang Bronson Arroyo Pete Schourek Paul Wilson Bullpen: CL - Jeff Brantley SU - Jeff Shaw MR - Scott Williamson MR - Scott Sullivan MR - Jared Burton MR - David Weathers MR - Gabe White

Re: Dream Reds lineup from your lifetime
[QUOTE=Chris Sabowned;1833332] I added the stipulation to my roster that the player had to have more than one year on the Reds; sorry Josh Hamilton and Greg Vaughn.
Thought about this with my dream team but. In the case of Vaughn I just felt that the 1 year he was with the team was a great season. It was for all of us the last truly great season that the Reds have had and I for one still have vivid memories from that year.Vaughn was without a doubt the leader of that team and also put up some really good numbers. In the case of Hamilton he also had a good year.More than anything though he was by far the best story in baseball that year. Not to mention he could end up being arguably the most talented Reds player to play CF ever.Hamilton could go on to be a Hall of Famer and I think that the Reds will always be remembered as the team that gave him his chance. Not to mention it also was the only other year that the Reds made a playoff push in recent memory other then the year Vaughn was with the team.
