Yeah yeah small ball

Taveras has 7 hits and 5 walks and 3 SB's (and 0 CS). What gives? At least 3 times in the last few games my wife has scolded me for yelling "steal" so loud it wakes the neighbors. When is he going to start cutting it loose? Is Dusty giving him the red light? Dickerson has 5 hits and 5 walks and 1 stolen base attempt. What gives? I can only blame the manager. So much for small ball.

Sorry but I don't think so. I really, really like this team. So much more potential than in years past. I was really looking forward to some refreshing offense in place of the stagnant Griffey/Dunn days. What a boring offense that was. But has this team been "manufacturing" runs? Not that I see. They've been fairly patient at the plate and have been getting some good at-bats, but I don't see much of a change on the basepaths. And if this team is going to be good, they have to start running more.

How about him trying to stretch from 1st to third on a double last night and getting thrown out.

The Reds are currently tied for 6th in the NL is SB's so the Reds are running. The thing is you can't just start sending runners when they get on base. Stealing bases depends a lot on the situation at hand. In the case of Taveras, yeah he's getting on base a lot. But if he steals 2B what happens? Pitchers will be less likely to throw a good pitch to Votto or Dickerson so you're taking the bat out of their hands.

I wonder if Willy isn't still feeling the effects of the flu/weakness. Maybe he's not got his strength totally back yet.

His OBP is .433 so I think his strength is just fine.
