Re: Monday 5/11/09 minor league updates

STUBBS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OF Drew Stubbs (Louisville) today was named International League Player of the Week for 5/4-5/10...in 7 games for the week, Stubbs batted .423 with a .615 slugging pct...he led the league with 5 doubles and 6 steals (7 attempts)...for the season,he’s batting .329 (27-82) with 10 doubles, a .409obp and 10 stolen bases.

CO-CONSPIRACY? Birmingham’s C.J. Retherford today was named Southern League Player of the Week for 5/4-5/10 after batting .381 (8-21) with 2 HR, 11 RBI, 3 doubles, a triple and 4 runs scored in 5g...for the week he ranked among league leaders in RBI (1st), slugging (1st, .905), HR (T1st) and extra-base hits (2nd, 6)...Carolina’s Chris Heisey probably isn’t happy about it, as he batted .478 (4th) with 11 hits (T3rd), 4 doubles (T2nd), a .538obp (4th), a .783 slugging pct (4th) and 5 extra-base hits (T3rd) in 6g...it also should be noted that Carolina’s Eric Eymann led the league last week in batting average (.529).

QUOTE BOAT: “I’ve got to call (my mom) now.” - Wilkin Castillo, who won yesterday’s game vs. Scranton with a 3-run HR in the bottom of the 11th inning (Louisville Courier-Journal)

Yonder Alonso walks in his first PA, but Buchholz ended the inning.

Drew Stubbs reached on an error on a grounder to third, then stole third after getting to second on a FC.

Maloney picks up another K, gives up a single and gets a double play ball.

Two more Ks in the third for Maloney. They're starting to figure him out a bit though, two singles and a hit batter loads them but he gets a groundout.

Maloney's curve is working well. 6 Ks through 3.

5th inning - Yanks go 1-2-3 with one K

No score in the middle of the fifth.

Bats have 3 hits and two were wasted leadoff doubles. (Gomes and Tatum)

Louisville is leading the league in HRs with 34.

SWB and Durham have 32.

Bats pitchers have given up the fewest walks in the league.

Alonso is 0-for-0 with two walks.

Soto is 2-for-2. Don't look now but Soto is starting to heat up. He was awful in April but he entered tonight with an .872 OPS in May.
