Fairel: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 11 K

This is his third double digit strikeout performance in his last five starts.

I know its still early but I think Fairel is way too much for the Low A hitters.

Re: Wednesday 5/13/09 minor league updates

Just got back from the Bats - Bulls game. I got there late but only several hard hit balls off of Homer that I saw. Unfortunately, two went out of the park. Didn't see any obvious concentration problems. Velocity was great - would have to go to my toes to count the number of times he hit 95 or 96 on the gun, and even saw 98 on two pitches, one for a 3rd out strikeout with runner on third base. Seemd to have all his pitches working. Overall pretty good tonight - really fooled a lot of Bulls batters.

Fairel now has a ratio of 16 walks to 49 K. Can anybody tell me what sort of pitches he throws, and what the velocity and movement is on them?

Thurman: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K

19 K's in 8 IP for Dayton.

Is that now 4 or 5 times they have struck out the side this game?

From snooping around on the web a little it is posted that he throws 87-89. So he may touch 90. I have also seen that his change up is his strike out pitch and that he relays on control. I have read someone comparing him to Matt Maloney. It would appear that he is more finesse than power. (not that there's anything wrong with that) I have never seen him pitch so take the preceding with a grain of salt.

Was Fariel a HS pitcher headed for UF? If so, I think there's a chance he adds a couple more MPH over the next couple of years.

Re: Wednesday 5/13/09 minor league updates

Fairel is actually 21 already (22 in July). He pitched at FSU. He's 6'3" 203 lbs. according to milb.com, so he has a good pitcher's frame.
