I think Votto could be a sick young man.....

http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs...cincinnati.com

Joey Votto was feeling much better Wednesday, but the dizzy spell he went through Tuesday left him a bit shaken.

“It came out of nowhere,” he said. “It was really, really odd and scary.”

Votto left the game in the bottom of the fourth. He had flied out to deep left-center in the top of the innng.

“Before my at-bat, I felt my heart really racing and I felt odd,” Votto said. “After the inning, I went back on the field and I couldn’t center myself.”

Votto missed four starts last week with the flu. He thinks that caused the dizziness.

“I don’t think I was dehydrated,” he said. “I’ve been doing my best to eat really well. I’ve been taking a lot of fluids because I know it’s really hot and dry here. I wouldn’t attribute it to dehydration.”

Votto was still feeling out of sorts well after he left the game.

“It took way too long to recover,” Votto said. “That’s what my concern was. I didn’t feel anywhere near regular until an hour, an hour and half after it happened. More than anything, it was frustrating. I’ve gotten dizzy before when I was younger, and I’d be back to normal in 20 minutes at the most. I think because I’m sick and have flu it wouldn’t allow me to recover.”

Votto thinks he'll be back Friday when the Reds open a series in San Diego. But he was fine with being out of the line Wednesday.

“The last thing I want to do is go out and have to come out of the game. I found it really embarrassing. Not that I did anything embarrassing. But I don’t want to do that again out of respect to my teammates.”

Ok so hear me out here. I think Votto should be tested for Lyme Disease. Some might laugh it off but I had the exact bouts Votto had unexplained out of nowhere too before I got sick. And I was his same age, and appeared to look very very healthy.

The flu-like symptoms, the dehydration. Then especially the profound dizziness and my heart racing and not being able to catch my breath.

I could certainly be wrong and hope and pray that I am. But I hope that the doctors think about this. This sounds like exactly what I was going through before I got diagnosed. Hopefully it was some other cause.

Don't you have to be bitten by a deer tick to get lyme disease?

Yes. And it's happening more and more frequently every day. Joey is from Toronto, Canada where it is pretty prevalent. Although it could have happened in Florida or Cincinnati just as easily.

I would hope Joey's not walking around in random fields with long grass during the season.

Esasky was the first thing that popped to mind when I heard he had a dizzy spell.

Actually, the FIRST thing was "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO", then the Esasky thing.

It's just an isolated incident brought on by the flu. I doubt this type of thing will reoccur. The challenge will be staying hot once he returns.

From a "fine piece of man candy" to a "sick young man."

Godspeed, little buddy. Godspeed...
