Need Advice On Shocks For Truck

I need your opinions as I have never shopped for shocks before until now.

The ORIGINAL shocks on my 2001 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 (198,000 miles) need replaced. I think the truck has at least another 100,000 miles of life so I will want some decent but not too pricey ones.
(My previous Nissan truck I owned for 12 1/2 years)

Monroe Muffler gave me a quote of $300 to have Monroe sensitrac shocks installed for $300 ($220 after $80 rebate). Plus, they can be replaced for free after 50,000 miles via warranty.
Is this a good deal? I am still going to call around other shops for more quotes.

What kind of a sissy replaces the shocks on a truck? Ride it out, cowboy.

Seriously, $55 a wheel doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. If you did it yourself you could probably buy comparable shocks for maybe $100. Seems like it's worth it to me.

OK, here are the quotes I received.

All quotes are parts and labor.

Monroe: $300 out the door price.

Midas: $538 before tax

Tuffy: $400 before tax

OEM Dealership: $487 before tax

Discount Muffler (hometown business): $360 plus tax

Here is the deal I am going to go with and have installed on Thursday: A local shop said I can pick out the shocks and they will install all four of them for $80. I bought 4 Gabriel Guardian (Part # Front-81507 / Rear-81318) shocks at $16.99 each. So the total for parts and labor will be around $160 after tax.

It pays to shop around.

I got the Gabriel Guardian's installed on Thursday. The installer noted that the old shocks had one leaking and another one hanging loose which I knew about. The ride is pretty good for the $16.99 each price I paid for them. I am sure the more pricey ones give you a better ride. Plus, these ones bought from Auto Zone is good for the life of the truck. I will keep my receipt for a free replacement in the future!
