The Dynamic Duo
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/...true&count=131
I don't want to pile on but ... Among qualifying batters Taveras ties for 5th worst OBP in MLB. Gonzalez would have the worst OBP in MLB if he qualified. As I posted in another thread, Taveras has the worst OPS in MLB, Gonzalez would be 4th worst if qualifying. Since Votto went out Taveras has 1 hit. 1 for 46. That is the same as Wilkin Castillo. They are hardly the only culprits since, as a team in June the Reds line is 280/306/587 with a BA of .199. That was before today's "effort." Last edited by klw; 06-18-2009 at 05:15 PM. |

Re: The Dynamic Duo
I've been pretty happy with the Reds this year as I thought this was a transition year to next year when the kids grow and they become contenders (Cueto, Volquez, Bruce, Votto, a dash of Hanigan and Dickerson, and EdE maturing) Almost all of that is happening (outside of EdE). Anyway, I could live with this year being a build towards something better. And I leave Baker mostly alone cause he wins when he has talent, so he is what he is.
Having said that, I can begrudgingly live with Tavares continually being sent out in the 1 spot. I didn't mind the signing as much as others cause I thought his odd year/even year thing would kick in and he'd be major league average to just under average for leadoff hitter this year before he tanks (and I think his wheels are not right at this time, so it is what it is as well). But what I cannot live with is Alex Gonzalez hitting 2. This is either 5 or 6 games in a row with him there and its not EVER going to work. Gonzalez does nothing well with the bat and should never, ever be near the top of any lineup. As long as he hits 2 I lose faith in Baker. Its my first time all year mad and I think I'm pretty justified. No more Gonzalez in the two spot!!

If you want to start a thread about Alex Gonzalez, go right ahead. However, I think the above thread is more than covering Taveras' ineptitude. |
