Is there a reason why every year...almost...or it seems like? That the GCL Reds never win ...nor do they hit very well?
I mean all this talk about good young signings ..you would think someone would stand out more than they do. Are all the other teams full of ringers or something? Are they older?
The Gulf Coast League is a very difficult league to hit in. They play their games in the pitching friendly FSL ballparks and most of the players are 16/17/18 year olds who aren't fully developed yet. And really, last year was the first time the Reds had made a big splash in Latin America. In previous seasons, the Latin players on the GCL Reds roster were filler types, except for one player here and there.
I said this in another thread - I don't really expect much out of Juan Duran and Yorman Rodriguez this year. These guys are 16 and 17 years old. They would be sophomores/juniors in high school if they grew up in the US. All I'm looking for out of them this season is just to stay healthy and gain experience.
I think that anyone who expects anything out of a 16 year old needs to step back and look at how you acted at 16 then rethink expecting these kids to hammer the baseball.
Billy didn't have error today! But Yorman had one.
With all due respect, that doesn't explain why the Orioles got 8 runs on 14 hits while the Reds got 1 on 3.
The Orioles starter today turns 26 in a week. The guy that relieved him was 22. 22 doesn't sound that old but I think it's older than anyone on the Reds. Quite a bit older in a lot of cases.
Wood allowed an unearned run in the first inning.

Frazier leads off the second inning with his 31st double. Not in this game though, that would be a record or something.
Matt Klinker has been promoted to Carolina. Horst pitching for Sarasota.
