Good to see Frazier back in there with another homer.

Did he misplay some balls or misjudge some that would have been or should have been caught?

He cut off a ball in the gap and got a glove on it but overran it. The runner was probably going to make 2nd anyway so he didn't get an error. Another ball he just didn't get to that I'm used to seeing Stubbs catch. Another throw home that was off line. He didn't misjudge anything though. He just not as talented out there as Stubbs. Few are.

Dorn now at .254/.313/.444/757 line after a truly horrid April and putrid May. Took him a while. My guess is his OPS is over 800 by the end of the year. Any takers?

Re: Thursday 7/16/09 minor league updates

Lost was a 1-0 lead by the Dragons after two and a 3-1 lead after five and first J.C. Sulbaran, then newcomer Mark Serrano pitched into and out of some jams.

Sulbaran pitched much better than his previous start when all six batters he faced scored, but he had to exit after four due to a finger blister.

Serrano, the sixth-round Reds pick in last month’s draft, allowed a two-run homer to Morales in his second inning.

That's at least the 3rd time this year he's had a blister on his pitching finger. Dude must have skin like a baby.

2010 - Dorn (L) platoons with Gomes (R) to start the season. Frazier & Alonso start in AAA but likely reach the bigs at some point perhaps taking over in LF.

Going to arbitration with Gomes is a lot cheaper than some long term deal for Matt Holliday or some other free agent.

Re: Thursday 7/16/09 minor league updates

Rosales, I believe, was OPSing over 1.2 when called up. .800 is nothing to get excited about at AAA. I say this even though I like Dorn. I expect a Dorn/Gomes platoon might be the left field plan at the beginning of next season, until somebody else is ready to take over. One thing that could get in the way of that is bringing both Stubbs and Heisey with the conviction they're ready to be everyday players--Heisey to left, Stubbs to CF.

Is Sulbaran going to be destined to be an injury magnet, or is this perpetual blister-age something that a lot of younger, hard throwing pitchers suffer from... maybe from an odd grip on the ball?

This should have been a solo shot which would have kept the lead at the time but a mishandled single to Wiley allowed the runner to take 2nd and the guy between this and the HR hit a groundball to 2nd which allowed the runner to go to 3rd. Had he been on 1st they likely could have turned a DP. I was listening to the game on the radio and the announcer said that would likely be an error on Wiley and then said they gave the runner a double instead.
