would you trade Votto or Alonso?

I dont think Alonso can play anything but 1st, Votto is a legit high average/power hit who we're not sure if he can play LF or wants to go out there. What do you do, if Alonso can hit major league hitting I trade Votto, the mental issues scare me enough.

If it makes the team better, trade both.

Alsono, but I would wait til his value is as high as I can get it. Votto seems not only to be a great bat but a great leader for this team, to me that outweighs what alsono can do. What about alonso for a SS? Brignac or Hardy?

Alonso, so long as Votto is willing to sign a long-term deal of some kind.

I don't see any reason why you would trade Votto. He's one of the team's leaders and someone you want the young guys to model. His value right now is far beyond what numbers he posts. If you are going to build short term or long term, you have to have him in the plans. Alonso has proven nothing yet, so if you are going to trade one, he'd be the logical one to trade. If you traded Votto you'd be relying on a rookie who has no big league experience.

I don't see any reason not to trade him if it makes the team better.

"If" His father died.. Someone he was so close to died. Votto is a face of this organization and someone you build around. With saying that I have conserns about Yonder and his health.. Can he stay injury free?

What mental issues? The guy isn't in a strait jacket in a mental institution. He lost his father, and had a tough time dealing with it. That's not so out of the ordinary. Only thing that is out of the ordinary is that he had the guts to come out and admit it.

Joey is a great player, and a leader. There's no way I trade a proven commodity like him and keep an unknown in Alonso.

Re: would you trade Votto or Alonso?

I'd deal both if the return was good enough. But the return for Votto would have to be HUGE. A possible ace, an erstwhile closer, a solid SS offensively and defensively, and something else. At a minimum.

Alonso, I'd look for a SS or possible starting C, but that's really all I think he'd garner.

I think the chance of his issues re-emerging in a significant way are slim. The problems were associated with his father's death and the fact he hadn't really dealt with it. He'd had no issues before that. Now he has been dealing with it -- he had a rough August and admitted the anniversary of his father's death was a factor, but he was able to keep playing and then finally broke through with a huge September. Seems to me he's well on the road to being free of the issues, and it's highly unlikely he'll go backwards.

I was just answering an hypothetical with a hypothetical, Alonso numbers look very good and his prospects for the future are rosy, so are Votto's, a move must be made and what Im saying if youre the GM and 1 has to be moved, who do you move? Some saying niether is a cop out IMO.

If Votto's problems with his father's death re-emerge and sideline him again, then of course you'd have to be reluctant to move Alonso. But at this point I think they should feel comfortable enough with Votto that if some team is willing to give the Reds a nice return in an area of need for Alonso, the team should strongly consider it. However, coming off his hamate injury, Alonso probably has to show a consistent power stroke before his marketability is such that the Reds can get what they'd hope to for him.
