Re: Reds Top 40 prospects (2009) - Who should appear on first ballot?
Exactly. I'm not going to put a Logan Ondrusek or Miguel Rojas on the first poll because, honestly, does anyone think they are the Reds #1 prospect? I'm trying to limit the first poll to 8-10 choices whereas spots #2, #3, #4, etc.. will have roughly 15-20 choices.

Btw, I'm gonna make a new poll every three days, that way it spaces it out all through the offseason and takes us up to a week or two before spring training starts.

I'd probably go with Mth on this one but I don't think I'd yet add Fairel, Valaika though I still believe in and would add him. Billy Hamilton certainly is intriguing in the same way Yorman is as well.

Re: Reds Top 40 prospects (2009) - Who should appear on first ballot?
Why not start with a list of 40 and add guys as others get picked? That was my thought in suggesting Rojas, Wiley, etc. If you're just making a list for the #1 guy, there's no way you have more than 6-8 candidates.

Re: Reds Top 40 prospects (2009) - Who should appear on first ballot?
Wood, Left hand starter, has to be tops
Ondrusek, One of the top closers at AAA Can't believe no on mentioned him. Klinker Maloney, although I have my doubts that he will ever make it. Del Rosario Thurman Fairel Kennard Cochoran Smit Valiquette Krebs Lutz Hotchkiss Serrano Otterness Now for the hitters and fielders Stubbs if he still counts Francisco, ditto Fraizer Heisey Valaika Alonso Cozart, only because of where he plays Sappelt Mendez, this guy will cause the Reds to ponder the future of third base Coddington, best catcher in the system Oliveras, Can a short guy play centerfield That is 26 |

A guy not mentioned that will make the lists at some point is Ty Cline. Great year for a guy I wondered when drafted "what the heck?" Not on the first ten but after that he's gonna have to be considered.

Re: Reds Top 40 prospects (2009) - Who should appear on first ballot?
Yorman Rodriguez is not a Top 10 Reds prospect? Age 16 in Rookie ball holding his own? He has more potential than any minor league hitter the Reds have except for Alonso. Has to be top 10 IMHO.
