Re: Rich Hill & Noah Lowry Free Agents
I'm tired of the "why nots", the "can't hurts", the "low risk, high rewards", the "plays the game the right ways" and all of the other Reds front office cliche labeled players.
I want a Josh Beckett. I want a CC Sabathia. I want a freaking off season player acquisition like Junior was. I want a move that even Paul Daugherty would have hard time finding something negative about. Does that player exist in FA this year? I haven't payed close attention, but I doubt it. Even if that player was out there, AND the Reds were willing to pony up the cash, I just don't see that type of player signing here. Ok, sorry for the rant, but there will most likely be several threads like this during the off season and I am honestly just fed up with those kind of players.

It's just, the Reds also need the Josh Becketts of the world to win championships as well. Don't eliminate the Noah Lowry types, just try to also get the Josh Beckett types. To answer your question, Rich Harden and John Lackey are available this offseason among others. Those are probably the high profile guys.

I saw that Lowry was available. Missed Hill. I'd kick the tires on them if it's on a minor league contract.

Re: Rich Hill & Noah Lowry Free Agents
Lowry would be my target amongst those 2 pitchers.

Re: Rich Hill & Noah Lowry Free Agents
Hill had surgery for a torn labrum not long ago. I know medicine has advanced, but the best he could expect is a minor league deal. With a number of high minors pitchers likely dealt, minor league free agents or just let go (Lehr, Wells, Vasquez, Cochran, Ward) maybe Hill as depth in AAA to see if his strengthened shoulder fixes his command problems wouldn't be a bad gamble as AAA depth. No roster spot or guaranteed money need be involved. He'll be 30 in spring training. Lowry will be 29 next season and has had albow issues that took multiple attempts to correct. I'd guess he'll only get a minor league deal as well. He'd be an even better gamble IMO.
If it takes a major league deal for either, I'd pass,

Re: Rich Hill & Noah Lowry Free Agents
Lowry will get a major league deal, and whoever gets him, will probably regret it. Rich Hill would require a minor league deal, but I'd rather he recover from what is often a career-ending surgery on someone else's dime.

I'd rather go with Matt Moloney as number five until Edison is back.

Me too. These guys are for AAA and to see if lightening strikes.

Re: Rich Hill & Noah Lowry Free Agents
Should have worded that a little different. Junior was one of the best players in the game at the time he was acquired.

Re: Rich Hill & Noah Lowry Free Agents
I should've? Why? Yeah he was one of the best players of the '90's but I had concerns about that trade when it went down and I might not have been the only one (I doubt I was). Bowden just made a mistake.
