Justin Upton on the verge of an extension

Could be an interesting model for Joey Votto. I'd start thinking about this in a few months, depending on Votto's performance/health and Alonso's progression.

The Evan Longoria deal looks all the more ridiculously good now. Upton meanwhile is going to be in for a huge payday when he hits free agency at like 26.
Luckily the Reds have control of Votto through most of his prime.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance. |
