John Fay - Arroyo’s streak in jeopardy?

Quote:
Arroyo took a line shot off the bat of Colby Rasmus directly on the right calf. Arroyo stayed in the game and went eight innings, allowing one run on five hits, in the Reds’ 2-1 victory over the St., Louis Cardinals.

But the calf was very sore afterward.

“Not real good,” Arroyo said. “I’ve been hit a lot harder but not in this spot. It’s killing me. It got me in the belly of the calf. It’s got my foot locked up. It’s like a charley horse cramp

Hopefully Bronson is fine after a couple days. He pitched an excellent game today.

I'm sure come Tuesday, he'll be able to answer the bell.

He looked fine the rest of the game but I'm sure it still hurts a lot. I could clearly hear the impact from right-center field. Hopefully he'll be ready to go next turn.

Send a line shot off the bat of Colby Rasmus to all the pitchers.

I know it's likely that Arroyo will be ok by Tues. but if by some chance he isn't who would start? Is it possible that we could see Wood or maybe even Chapman?I'm not sure what the rules are for guys coming up from AAA for just 1 start as far as how it would affect either of their contract/arbitration situation but I'd like so see one of them if it wouldn't hurt any long term plans.Especially Chapman.

Just start Owings...unless he has to pitch in the next 4 games.

Chapman pitches on Sunday, no way it'd be him.

Honestly, if Arroyo misses a start I wouldn't be surprised if they just throw Owings.

I doubt Arroyo misses his start though.

My thoughts as well but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Re: John Fay - Arroyo’s streak in jeopardy?

From the Reds:

ARROYO NOTE: In yesterday’s 2-1 win vs the Cardinals, RHP Bronson Arroyo threw 8.0 innings and allowed just 1 run…since the beginning of last season Arroyo has made 8 starts of at least 8.0 innings without allowing more than 1 run, tying him with Zack Greinke and Tim Lincecum for second-most in the Major Leagues behind Cliff Lee, who has made 10 such starts…courtesy Elias Sports Bureau.

I knew he had been decent lately, but those numbers are very impressive!

The way he pitched, maybe he should take a shot in the calf more often.

Re: John Fay - Arroyo’s streak in jeopardy?

From John Fay:

Quote:
Bronson Arroyo didn’t know why the team saved the ball after his fourth inning strikeout of Albert Pujols yesterday.

It was Arroyo’s 1,000th strikeout.

“I didn’t know anything about it until Jay Bruce told me a couple of innings later,” he said.

Re: John Fay - Arroyo’s streak in jeopardy?

From Mark Sheldon:

Quote:
*Some tried to be funny by leaving Arroyo a "commemorative" ball for his 1,000th career strikeout, which came vs. Albert Pujols. Arroyo's named was spelled with one 'R' and Pujols' name was spelled "Alberto Poojols."
