4-14-10 Reds at Marlins

Dickerson 8
Janish 6
Votto 3
Phillips 4
Rolen 5
Bruce 9
Gomes 7
Hernandez 2
Bailey 1

vs. Volstad (0-1, 2.84)

The two-hole? Really? I think it's nice Janish is finally getting his first start of the year, but there's no way he's a two-hole hitter. I've never been a Dusty-basher (in fact I think he does a good job overall), but his line-ups are freaking "plug and play". Okay, that's out of my system....GAME ON!

Reds need a nice solid start from Homer tonight. Bullpen is still pretty thin. Masset & Lincoln are good to go, but just about everyone else is kinda gassed. Is a complete game shutout asking too much? :O)

Volstad is a nasty righty, glad that he is giving Stubbs the start of the night off.

If hes giving a righty a night off, I'd rather it be Gomes. I assume in this case, its just a break for Stubbs, and the fat that Volstad is out there is just a plus.

This is almost the worst possible lineup I expected out of Dusty Baker.

Bruce desperatly needs to be in the two hole.

Re: 4-14-10 Reds at Marlins

Dusty Baker already posted his lineup for tomorrow:
P Leake (is batting 1.000)
SS Janish (is the SS)
C Hernandez (Bailey took a little Spanish in high school)
2B Phillips (default cleanup hitter)
LF Gomes (is a fastball hitter, and Josh Johnson throws a fastball)
CF Stubbs (strikes out too much but hit a grand slam this year)
3B Rolen (scouts have noticed that he hits better later in the game)
1B Votto (want to keep the base cloggers down in the order)
RF Bruce (has no RBIs this year)

I'm predicting a near no hitter for Volstad tonight, but he loses the game 4-3 on two, two run dingers he gives up to Janish.

Looks like a winning combination.

Actually, I was opposed to the idea of Rolen in the two hole at first, but the more I think about it...the more I like it. Bruce, not so sure. He could certainly get better pitches with more protection. But just about anybody is better than Janish there....and I LIKE Janish. :

I like it. I'll predict Bruce hits 2 dingers, Janish with a double and 2 walks. Reds win 8-1

Re: 4-14-10 Reds at Marlins

Question: Is Janish in the 2 hole worse than Phillips--lifetime OPS against righthanders .699--in the 4 hole? Neither one makes any sense, but I can't get very exercised about Janish when at least three quarters of the time we've got a guy hitting cleanup with the OPS of a utility player.

Stubbs isn't going to play tomorrow, either.

Quote:
Drew Stubbs will be out of the lineup tomorrow as well. He’s dealing with a bit of a sore back.

“It’s nothing major,” Stubbs said. “It’s something I could play through but this early they wanted to give me a couple of days.”

Stubbs didn’t recall exactly how he injured himself. He said it was worse this morning when he woke up.

Betcha it was on that slide home in the 11th. He was grabbing the back of his thigh afterwards like he tweaked something.

Depends. If Volstad can throw a slider in the low and away quadrant of the strike zone, Stubbs is good for at least 3 strikeouts. He's got a big hole there right now and has been abused in it the last 3 or 4 games.

That said, there's definitely a logic which says if neither guy has the platoon split, play the better defender. I'd probably prefer Nix over Gomes against a tough righty.
