Re: 4/29 Minor League Updates
Baby steps. At least the offense is somewhat starting to hit.

Two walks for Valaika and two hits for Frazier. Hopefully, a good sign for each.

Re: 4/29 Minor League Updates
The bats have lost four straight games by one run. Only two of their losses have been by more then three runs, and both were 6 -1 losses last weekend. 7 - 14 obviously is not good, but once they start hitting, they will win, as they have probably the best pitching in the league. A .216 team avg is impossible to maintain, especially with all the quality hitters (Fraizer, Francisco, Balentien, Sutton) in serious slumps that have to end soon. Keep in mind that Votto was .186 for april as a Bat in 2007.

I pity the team that gets the offensive eruption that is coming in Louisville. It won't be pretty.

Re: 4/29 Minor League Updates
Minor league guys, where have we all been tonight?
Carolina is down 1-0 in the 5th. Klinker has 9 strikeouts and no walks through 5. Dayton is down 4-1 in the middle of 8. They have no been below .500 this season, but will be after tonight if they lose. Lynchburg is up 6-2 in the 7th. Everyone in the lineup has reached base at least once.

Re: 4/29 Minor League Updates
Valiquette did Klinker no favors last night allowing all his inherited runners to score.

Re: 4/29 Minor League Updates
Yes ONE!
There were 2 pass balls also off the catcher's mitt and one of the hits allowed was a comebacker off Valiquette's right leg. Last edited by RedsUp; 04-30-2010 at 11:56 AM. |

Re: 4/29 Minor League Updates
Very happy to see his early progress this year. Let's just hope he can sustain it once he gets the bump to Carolina.

Re: 4/29 Minor League Updates
RedsUp -- Seeing that you're from Montreal, I gather you're a Valiquette fan. Can you tell us if there's anything in particular that accounts for his excellent work this year? Or is it simply a matter of maturing and spotting that good fastball of his?

Re: 4/29 Minor League Updates
Valiquette and my son played baseball together so we follow him day by day as opposed to many posters here. When in Montreal he hangs out quite a bit with my son and they talk to each other troughout the season.
As for his success this season I would guess maturity as to do a lot but confidence is surely a big factor. Since he went to Billings in 2006 he never ceased to improve, that's the year he was turned into a reliever. He had success in every levels after that. Yes he had some control problems but nothing major. I'd say he throws an average of 65% strikes. The perception over here is what it is but if you pay attention it is not as bad as reported. Did you know that last week he reached 100mph with the team's radar? The Mudcat scoreboard was showing 104mph. For the last 2 years he was trying to break the 99 barrier. That kind of speed can also be a big factor with his results. In my mind he works around 94-97mph when he pitches. I hope that he did not get injured by that hard comebacker yesterday night. If I can aswer more of your questions it will be a pleasure. |
