FA OF options in 2011

Complete FA list: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/0...ee-agents.html

Really the only OF I like for the Reds there is Werth. I'm sure some people wll want Crawford, but I would stay away from him.

But actually, to me, there is only one guy on that list who could really fill that hole for the Reds, and is likely to be undervalued....

Re: FA OF options in 2011

Why do we even look at FA lists and look at the above-average to great players?

Do we REALLY think the Reds are going to be in serious contention for any of them?

The biggest splash we will make in FA next year will be IFF we decide to pick up Arroyo's option.
MAYBE a trade, maybe.
We don't sign top-tier FA's.

Alonso will be playing 1B for the REDS and batting 4th one year from today. - Kingspoint, July 9, 2009

Re: FA OF options in 2011

This team needs to continue to improve itself through int'l free agents, the draft, and trades. Later this season, or in the off-season I think they are gonna make a few big time trades to bring in a LF'er or SS or both. We have a ton of prospects and most will probably flame out before the bigs, so why not trade them for proven talent.

I hope we do not see any big free agent spending in the near future, none of the guys available intrigue me. I would like a Crawford or a Werth but would not spend 15 million dollars on either one of them like they will most likely receive.

I would actually prefer Crawford to Werth though, I feel like he is more likely to continue his numbers than Werth, I bet Werth wouldn't do nearly as well in a lineup this isn't flat out stacked.

Quoted for truth. I realize the FO didn't want to gamble in the off-season with all these AAAA guys, they wanted to see who might break out from the pack.

IMO, they are all the same - prospects - trade some of them along with some vets at the trade deadline, and get some more proven/depth at positions of need (SS, LF, C). You've got to trade value for value.
e.g. I don't care if Alonso ends up hitting .350 in the AL as a DH, he has no position in the NL, trade him for a SS of the futue, we have enough 1B/LF/DH prospects to choke a horse.

Why is Jermaine Dye still a FA? Better yet, why haven't we picked him up THIS YEAR.

Re: FA OF options in 2011

I have absolutely zero interest in any Outfielder not currently a Cincinnati RED to become a Cincinnati RED over the next 7 years.

We have so much Outfield talent in our organization right now, that we'll have to trade some of it away.

There is not room for even a 5th Outfielder from outside this organization.

Other GM's are drooling over the Outfield talent we have here in Cincinnati for the next 7 seasons.
