Minor-League Updates for Wednesday 5-29-13

Louisville is going long today. Josh Fellhauer, Nevin Ashley, and Konrad Schmidt have all taken Trevor Bauer out of the park. It's 6-0 Bats after four, behind Armando Galarraga.

Listening to the game in my ear piece at work. Hamilton steals 2nd and 3rd and scores on on Soto double. Hessman drives in another run and the Bats lead Columbus 10-6 after six. Bryan Price was pitching for Columbus. Not the Bryan Price we all know.

Re: Minor-League Updates for Wednesday 5-29-13

Bats scored in each of the first six innings and lead the Clips of Columbus 10-7 going into the ninth.

Fellhauer, has singled, homered and walked twice today and since 4/20 has this line: .329/.407/.493/.900.
Mike Hessman is 3-3 with a walk and his 12th home run. He is quietly having an outstanding season at the plate. He is OPSing 1.161 for the month of May and .974 for the season.
Nevin Ashley went 2-4 with a bomb and Konrad Schmidt went yard as well.
Billy Hamilton was 1-4 with a walk. He stole two bases (28/29).

Yohan Pino is making things interesting. A one-out comebacker to the pitcher hits off his right forearm. He picks it up and throws it away. The next batter rockets a single to center. Defensive indifference puts runners at second and third. The tying run is at the plate with a 3-0 count. Ball four. Bases juiced. Cord Phelps, the go-ahead run is at the plate. Phelps is 3-5 with a three-run jack. Shallow fly to left is out number two. Matt LaPorta up. Foul pop to the catcher. Bats win.

Galarrage pitched four scoreless before getting roughed up for four runs in the fifth. Whelan gave up a pair in the sixth and Christiani a run in the seventh.

Pino gets out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the 9th to give the Bats a 10-7 win.

Re: Minor-League Updates for Wednesday 5-29-13

Bakersfield is enjoying a little day baseball. James Allen is working for the Blaze, who lead 2-zip early on. Yorman Rodriguez doubled and rode home on a Steve Selsky base hit. In the second Juan Perez doubled and was driven in by Asbestos Wright.

James Allen pitched six strong inning before running into trouble in the 7th. Brooks Pinckard bailed him out. Allen's line: 6.1IP 2H 2R 2ER 2BB 5K. Allen had a one-hitter going into the seventh but walked a batter and surrendered a two-run blast.

Meanwhile, back at the bat rack, Ryan Wright with another ho-hum two-hit game. Yorman Rodriguez doubled twice and walked, scoring one run and plating a pair. Juan Perez also had two hits, a single and a double.

Blaze lead 6-2 heading into the ninth.

Carlos Gonzalez enters in the ninth but is unable to seal the deal. He walks three and allows two singles before being pulled. Kyle McMyne comes on with the winning run at the plate and gets a ground ball to third.

Bakersfield 6 San Jose 4.

Re: Minor-League Updates for Wednesday 5-29-13

Dayton and South Bend are all tied up at 1 after four.

Sal Romano is pitching well for the Dragons, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while fanning four.
The beat goes on for Jeff Gelalich as he has garnered two of the three Dragon hits and is up to .293. Joe Terry scored the lone run by reaching on an error, moving to third on a Gelalich single and scoring on a Winker grounder.
South Bend is pounding the Dragons now. Sal Romano gives up 3 in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth without retiring a batter. Tony Amezcua pitched three innings in relief and gave up a run. Austin Salter, who helped cough up that 8-1 lead yesterday was back on the hill. He faced five batters without retiring any of them.
Joe Terry, Jeff Gelalich and Tanner Rahier each have a single and an extra-base hit. Terry's is a triple. The other two have doubled. South Bend is up 9-1 and threatening to add more in the ninth.

Re: Minor-League Updates for Wednesday 5-29-13

Pensacola and Jacksonville are playing a double dip and it is getting late early for the Blue Fish.

Ryan Dennick went five strong innings, giving up just one unearned run. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out a couple of batters. Wilkin De La Rosa pitched a scoreless sixth.

Pensacola is threatening in the bottom half of the sixth. Tucker Barnhart doubled and moved to third on Travis Mattair single. One out runners on the corners. The SS LaMarre has sailed and sunk IMO. He strikes out. 24 and scuffling in your second go around at AA is not a good thing. Gilmartin walks to load them up. Devin Lohman bunt pops out to the catcher in foul territory. That's a headscratcher. Rally over.

Pensacola loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh but fail to cash.

Ryan Dennick is the hard-luck loser, even though his ERA falls to 2.57. De La Rosa with two shutout innings in relief.
Barnhart had a double and a walk. Not much else going offensively.

Jacksonville 1 Pensacola 0.

Aside from Lutz, Barnhardt, and Rogers, that whole roster seems inept and hopeless...and there's a chance Lutz doesn't even go back down to AA

Re: Minor-League Updates for Wednesday 5-29-13

Guys like Brodie Green, Devin Lohman, Ryan LaMarre, Michael Gilmartin, Bryson Smith, and Travis Mattair are about as exciting as a trip to the proctologist.
Even the relievers like Hayes, Manno, VanMil, and delaRosa are the definition of vanilla

I did forget about Tim "All You Can Eat" Crabbe in the list of promising players on the roster

Re: Minor-League Updates for Wednesday 5-29-13

Game Two - Pensacola and Jacksonville. No score after three. Shaun Ellis is getting a spot start and holding his own. The reality is that Pensacola should not be expected to score many runs. Aside from Bryson Smith (.280) and Luis Durango (.289) the batting averages of the rest of the players in the lineup are .200/.181/.185 (and .181/.185 is the heart of the lineup) .204/.230/.136/.000.

Ellis is through four now. He is at 49 pitches. Not sure how long they will let him go. His line: 4IP 4H 0R 0ER 1BB 4K. Ellis only went four. Lee Hyde and Brian Pearl each kept the Suns off the board for an inning. Getting late in the second game of a double header and the suspense is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Will Pensacola score? 0-0 last of the sixth.

Yes!! Back-to-back doubles by Smith and Vidal produce a run. Wahoos still batting, leading 1-0.

Despite two walks and a hits batsman, Drew Hayes nails it down for the Wahoos.

Pensacola 1 Jacksonville 0.
