Re: The Official Second Day Draft Thread - 2010
I wonder if Walt and the Cisco family ever crossed paths?

Re: The Official Second Day Draft Thread - 2010
From Wikipedia: Following his playing retirement, Cisco became a respected pitching coach for the Royals, Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies. He spent six seasons with the Blue Jays (1990-1995), helping his team to won three consecutive American League East Division titles (1991-93) and two World Series (1992-93). Under his tweaking and guidance, Paul Byrd, Robert Person and Randy Wolf developed as starters with the Phillies (1997-2000).
His grandpa is from St. Mary's OH and was "a curveball specialist" according to whoever wrote his Wiki entry.

Re: The Official Second Day Draft Thread - 2010
What's an average draft yield, 3 major league players and probably less than one everyday starter?

Re: The Official Second Day Draft Thread - 2010
Cisco reminds me a lot of Mike Leake just from reading about him...

Re: The Official Second Day Draft Thread - 2010
I've been at a meeting for the past hour. I was happy to return and see some high-upside HS arms piled up in rounds 5-7. It sounds like Cisco might be a tough sign.

Yep. I was really hoping the Reds would draft him. Great pick for the Phillies.

Re: The Official Second Day Draft Thread - 2010
Interesting. The Beavers were just eliminated from college postseason play- they're not as good as they were when Dallas Buck was their ace (national championship, 2006 I think) but they are what passes for a dynasty in the Pacific Northwest.
Although the Oregon Ducks have come a long way since restarting their baseball program last year. I saw a tweet that they lost like four commits in the first couple rounds of the draft. |

Re: The Official Second Day Draft Thread - 2010
Just from watching Robles' video, looks like he has a bit of a short arm motion, throws a fastball about 87-88 and a slow curve around 72 mph. He threw another pitch about 84 (slider?) as well.

Re: The Official Second Day Draft Thread - 2010
Also, the Cubs took Robles' Beavers teammate Kevin Rhoderick just a few picks later. That's the third OSU pitcher to go today.
