Joey Votto's homer (6/22)... weird aftermath

After Votto hit the 2-run shot in the 10th Brandon Phillips tapped him on the back of the helmet in celebration, and Joey turned around and looked like he was going to deck him.

Afterwards in the dugout FSN showed Brandon smiling and hugging Votto, as if to say he was just kidding around, and Joey still looked pretty angry about it.

Normally I'd just chalk it up to Votto being an intense guy, but it seemed a little strange.

Maybe Votto isn't a big Sean Casey fan

I know, that was really weird. It looked like after Votto high fived Phillips, Brandon tapped him on the head and Votto came back and said something to him. Then Phillips was all over Votto in the dug out. Lol it was entertaining though.

My guess is Joey was worried about his neck? Also his having to deal with vertigo last year? Just my two cents.

Votto has one heck of a temper. He flips out a lot at umps.

That would explain it because it happened when Brandon hit him on the head.

I had quite a laugh about this. Brandon continued to try to placate Joey for a good 30-45 seconds after he got the stare and Joey was just having none of it. Funny stuff.

Lets just say Joey doesn't seem like the type to give an after-game pie to the face. He's a pretty serious guy.

Did he ever get one as a rookie? I can't recall that ever happening, although it's usually rookie pitchers who get them.

I saw Joey and Brandon in the dugout right after, and I thought they were just playing around. I guess I missed the first little love tap to Joey's helmet. weird. Maybe Joey's just extra cautious about his neck.

That wasn't the only incident with Phillips last night. I didn't see the game, but I saw the highlight of Phillips catch when he pulled a Freel and nearly collided with Heisey. I don't know if Heisey called him off or not.
