What does it mean? I don't know.

April 16 - 3-4 loss to Pittsburgh at home. Leake starts and Dusty plays Cairo at 1B and Janish at 3B. Votto and Rolen get the day off.

April 17 - 4-5 loss to Pittsburgh at home. Cueto starts and Cairo plays 3B. Cordero blows it in the 9th.

May 5th - 5-4 win over the Mets at home. Cueto starts and Cairo plays 3B.

May 18th - 5-4 win over Milwaukee at home. Bailey starts and Janish plays 3B.

May 20th - 9-10 loss at Atlanta. Leake starts. Cairo plays 3B. The fiasco game where we give up 6 runs in the late innings to lose it.

May 30th - 0-2 loss over Houston at home. Leake starts again. Janish plays 3B.

June 6th - 5-4 win at Washington. Arroyo starts. Cairo plays 3B.

June 13th - 3-7 loss at home to KC. LeCure starts. Cairo plays 3B.

June 23rd - 3-0 win at Oakland. Cueto starts. Cairo plays 3B.

June 29th - 6-9 loss at home to Philly. Leake starts. Cairo plays 3B.

Plenty of reasons why we lost. Most of those were day games. If Rolen doesn't hit a pinch hit HR in the 9th to tie the game on May 18th, the record is 3-7 when he doesn't start.

Leake has started 4 games where Rolen didn't start.
Cueto has started 3 games where Rolen didn't start.
Bailey, Arroyo, and LeCure have all started 1 game where Rolen didn't start.

Leake probably wonders why he gets shorthanded when he starts.

Should have been 5-5 if we'd have won that game in Atlanta we let get away when we were up 9-3 heading into the 9th inning.

It means there is a .500 point drop in OPS in the line up on every day he doesnt play. We need a better LFer, and a better back up 3rd baseman/first baseman. Cairo doesnt have the bat for those 2 positions and its not great.

So, not one of the four games Leake started did we win. So, it's really the combination of Leake and not playing Rolen that's bad. Because we're 4-2 in the other games. So, just don't give Rolen a day off when Leake is pitching.
