Anyone else with me here? Brantley terrible at PBP as we know, BUT...

... is very good as a color man???

Everyone can agree Brantley is awful at PBP (getting better, but still a long way to go) but I really like him as a color analyst. I'm talking about radio and TV. On TV, he's never the PBP guy, so I always like him on TV. On radio, I fluctuate between loving Brantley and disliking him depending on whether he's doing color or PBP.

A lot of Reds fans seem to either hate him or love him. I'm kind of bi-polar on the whole Cowboy thing.

I really like the Cowboy, just not as a PBP guy. He knows a lot about the game and pitching, but is just extremely boring and slow as a PBP guy. He really just isn't cut out for the job and, most likely, never will be.

I personally love him. He is a bad PBP man but a good color commentator. He livens things up and he always makes me chuckle. In the end, baseball is entertainment and The Cowboy entertains me.

He's grown on me a lot this year.

Ditto; I used to really dislike listening to him, but he's grown into the job and, to my utter surprise, I am really enjoying listening to him this year.

He's got a lot of great insights into pitching, especially.

When Marty retires, maybe he won't have to do PBP anymore?

Marty will not retire. Most likely they will have to pry the mike from his cold dead hands.

Brantley sounds like the last guy you'd pick in a broadcasting audition...ever. He would likely turn whatever he planned on talking about in the audition, into a Homer Simpsonesque ramble about whatever local food or restaurant came to mind, and that probably works for the local demographic here.

Hopefully you are dead on. After Stewart, Kelch, Thom, and Brantley I'm pretty sure that Marty could do better than most at 100.

And I never thought he'd do less than 162 games/year , but we've all lived long enough to see that happen. I predict he'll retire in the next 5 years.

I agree. I think Brantley is a good analyst. I also think he's better on TV than radio. He doesn't get caught up in the shenanigans that go on in the radio booth.

Re: Anyone else with me here? Brantley terrible at PBP as we know, BUT...

I used to really dislike him as an announcer but he's grown on me a little bit. His main fault with PBP seems to be that he's really interested in what is going on and he seems to forget sometimes that he's supposed to be describing it to the audience.

as a side note, I watched the Braves telecast with John Smoltz the other night and I think he's going to be an awesome commentator.

I wish Brantley would cut out the "right down broadway" thing.

Brantley is fine for color and talking pitching..... when he has to do PBP, I want to trade ears with my friend who is deaf for a few innings.
