Article on Double-A Manager
Here's an article on Carolina Mudcats' second-year manager, David Bell. It was published at the beginning of this season and I posted it on another forum back then but I thought y'all might would find it interesting.

As for his style. Like the article said, he isn't too worried about the long ball but more of the small game. He's a perfect NL manager because he loves the double switch. He has done, I kid you not, 3 in one game before. |

Re: Article on Double-A Manager
I have always wondered what percent of a minor league managers moves are restricted or dictated by the parent club. For instance, how much communication takes place between he and Cincy on what guys to use in certain situations, on given nights, etc.
I know he files a report to the Reds after each game and I imagine that same communication comes back his way as well based on his reports. In that the Mudcats seem to be struggling to get above the .500 mark since joinging Cincy, what do you attribute that to? Do you believe this team just doesn't have the parts? Do you believe Bell is missing something? Bonus Point: Will the Mudcats re-up with the Reds beyond this year? My brief conversation with Joe didn't sound encouraging when I inquired several weeks back. He may have been having a bad day, I don't know. |

Last year the Reds contacted DB and the staff telling them to try Frazier out at second. The big league team doesn't control them like puppets on everything they do, just some of the stuff. As for the Mudcats' performance, it's just the talent that the Reds have. I don't think it's the staff, just the talent the Mudcats had with the Marlins is better (no offense) However, that being said, the Mudcats only had three great seasons with the Marlins (03, 05, 08) the 06 & 07 season the Mudcats were horrible. I believe it's the amount of talent and amount of guys we had go straight to the big leagues (23) during the Marlins tenure which makes people think we were much better with Florida. As for will the Mudcats resign the PDC with the Reds after this season. I don't know. I have talked to the owner, trying to get a hint of what he thinks. When I talked to him a few weeks ago, he wasn't sure what would be out there (team wise). He wants another exhibition game, but that's really all he said. |

We made the playoffs as well. I believe it is very fair to say the team was more successful under the Marlins agreement than this one, to date. If you're saying we had three great seasons out of five, and I agree, that's pretty good. Did you by chance go up to see the Marlins exhibition game in Greensboro in April? That was pretty good. |

And yes, I was at the game, my first time at the Grasshoppers' stadium. I got to see the boys after the game too, which was good even though I just saw them like two weeks prior when I was at spring training lol. |

I'd prefer the drug cheats not manage in our system.
But I guess finding clean ex players is almost impossible anymore.
