Just keep taking 2 of 3 and every other problem will solve itself.

Exactly. If the Reds take two of three in each remaining three-game series, and simply split their two remaining four-game series, then they will be 34-19 the rest of the way.

(BTW, is that a "Weeping Angel" from Doctor Who in your avatar?)

53 games left if they keep up the current pace of 2 out of every 3 we would finish with about 96 wins which would win this division.

The schedule on ESPN shows Leake starting on the 9th against the Cards in his regular rotation slot. Alternatively, the off day tomorrow would allow Cueto to start that game on regular rest. That would seem to leave the Tuesday game for Leake. Homer, however, is still rehabbing at Louisville and by my count should start for them tomorrow, Thursday. With another good showing, he could well fall in line for the start next Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Congrats to Senor Janish on his performance today... and enjoy the new avatar.

Re: 8/4/10 - Reds at Pirates

Unforrtunately, my business is busiest during the first of the month, so I couldn't follow the game today except on my MLB program on my Blackberry (once again thanks to Homer Bailey for giving me a heads up on this). What little down time I had I was sneaking a peek at my phone screen and once in awhile listening briefly to the pbp. The Reds should have swept the series, but bad luck and lots of strange things kept us from that, but a road series win is good.

Good to see Gomes get it going and Janish having a monster day. Cueto had his usual shaky start and then settled down. Good to see Dusty pull him and let the bullpen glide to another win. Hated to see Springer hurt so soon. I thought he would help us. Bray continues to disappoint. Maybe he came up too soon, though I had to admit he seemed like the same Bray we've seen all along. Rhodes gave his usual exemplary performance and NickMass didn't have it, but he has been good lately.

All in all a good day. Now the Chicago series is most important. These days we win and the Cardinals win. We lose and the Cards lose. Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be that way the rest of the year. If the outfield starts hitting, and Heisey has given us a boost lately, this team will be OK. I look forward to the rest of the season so muchj.
