Comparison of Closers for contending teams
Player--------Team---SV---BS---IP---Hits---K---BB---ERA---WHIP---BAA
Brian Wilson-----SF-----32----3---48----44----67--18----2.23----1.28---.235 R. Soriano-------TB-----31----2---44----29----36--10----1.85----0.89---.184 Heath Bell-------SD-----31----3---47----41----60--19----1.93----1.29---.234 F. Cordero------Cin-----30----6---50----46----45--32-----4.11----1.55--.243 Neftali Feliz-----Tex----29----2---46----32----50--13-----3.50----0.97--.190 B. Wagner------Atl-----26-----6---48----28----67--15-----1.70----0.90--.167 M. Capps-------Min-----26----4----46---51----38---9-----2.74----1.30---.274 M. Rivera-------NYY----22----2----40---19----36---6-----0.91----0.63---.191 This will probably be our downfall if we make the postseason. Cordero's numbers don't even compare to the closers of other contending teams.

What are the #'s for the Phillies and the Cards? Don't care about the AL.

Re: Comparison of Closers for contending teams
In his last 15 outings he has just TWO 1-2-3 innings, you can only be lucky for so long before you become the next Danny Graves

Re: Comparison of Closers for contending teams
I actually thought the numbers would be worse than that. Get the walks down and he's right there. Hopefully Price or someone else they bring in can figure out what the problem is.
Put Lidge and Franklin on there. |

Re: Comparison of Closers for contending teams
I dont think a closer is a big deal over the course of a season but if the Reds do depend on Cordero for post season games its going to be a major issue.
Actually during the season it might be 2 or 3 losses. Which can be big but not all of those losses would really just be on the closer. Post season games are 5 game and 7 game seasons. 1 blown game can really really ruin it. |

13 saves, 4 blown saves, 24 IP, 22 hits, 31 K's, 14 BB's, 4.81 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, .239 BAA. Franklin stats: 19 saves, 1 blown save, 44 IP, 42 hits, 26 K's, 6 BB's, 3.30 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, .247 BAA. Typical Dave Duncan pitcher. Keep BB's down.

Corderos issue is that his strike out rates have went into the crapper.

Re: Comparison of Closers for contending teams
He only throws one pitch. Its fairly easy to time his fastball after a couple pitches. If he has another pitch, he sure should use it a little more.
