Re: This Date In Reds History (8/8/10): Past Lineups
25 years ago (1985), a 6-5 13-inning win at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Cincinnati Eddie Milner cf Pete Rose 1b Dave Parker rf Buddy Bell 3b Nick Esasky lf Ron Oester 2b Dave Concepcion ss Bo Diaz c Mario Soto p Los Angeles Mariano Duncan ss Enos Cabell 3b Ken Landreaux cf Greg Brock 1b Mike A. Marshall rf Len Matuszek lf Mike Scioscia c Steve Sax 2b Orel Hershiser p WP: Ted Power (4-2) LP: Carlos Diaz (2-1) Sv: Ron Robinson (1) HR: None. Earlier in the day, the Reds traded C Alan Knicely, INF Tomy Foley, and a player to be named later (minor-league P Freddie Toliver) to the Phillies for C Bo Diaz and minor-leaguer Greg Simpson. I remember thinking a few weeks prior to this deal that Diaz would make a nice target for a trade. Diaz was buried on the Phillies bench, as the Phils also had Ozzie Virgil Jr., Johnny Wockenfuss, and John Russell. They also had Darren Daulton at AAA, and he had made a few appearances during the season. Furthermore, the Reds had a couple of very weak bats behind the plate in Dann Bilardello and Dave Van Gorder. Alan Knicely's stick was a little better, but his defense was substandard. Pete Rose was 2-for-7 with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. His bunt single with two outs in the thirteenth inning off Dodgers lefty Carlos Diaz scored Cesar Cedeņo with the go-ahead run. Ty Cobb: 4191 Pete Rose: 4170
