Off day offensive fun!
Chicken soup for one's tortured sinus of demoralizing defeat, OBI stats!

I'm not convinced this is really a skill above and beyond regular hitting but it's interesting to see. Maybe the most interesting part of it, that Hanigan leads the Reds in driving in runners who are on FIRST BASE. (OK, he's converted 6 baserunners on first into runs in 44 chances )Although Bruce hasn't been good, he has improved from earlier in the year when he was, as I recall, below 10%. Ramon H has been doing a nice job with the bat this year too. Most productive catching tandem in the big leagues: Rymon Hernanigan? Thoughts?

Re: Off day offensive fun!
In case you haven't heard....Ryan Hanigan only drove in 11 runs last year.
![]() Nate, thanks for your thread starters today. These types of threads are why RZ continues to be my favorite site. (after nickelodeon of course, but you understand)

Re: Off day offensive fun!
I should point out, in case you're new to wOBA (or it is new to you) that .330 is considered average. So in this case, Nix and Gomes appear are straddling the line.

Re: Off day offensive fun!
So what does that make Cabrera at .289?

Re: Off day offensive fun!
I don't know why, but this one....I can't stop giggling. :O)
Btw...with all the slamming Gomes has been taking lately (and I've come around on him defensively...he's pretty darned bad) his numbers for the year are still quite solid. Yes, he's struggled lately, but I still feel a good portion of that is him being stuck on 99 dingers. He seemed to be trying to FORCE the HR to come and now it's gotten in his head some. That string of AB's he had recently is what he SHOULD be doing (showing patience and drawing the walks), but the ones he's had since that....*shudder* Bruce I'm not concerned about to be honest. He's still VERY young and it really won't take much for him to turn it around. Even with him struggling like he has, his numbers are still pretty darned solid too. The low HR numbers are a bit puzzling for me. Can't quite figure that one out...other than poor luck. What? No Janish numbers? :O)

Re: Off day offensive fun!
Ugh I believe your correct about 3 weeks or so between the 2 events. Around June 20th for Alonso and around July 12th for Bruce. That may have some bearing on it. Though I think at least some of the problem is still in the swing mechanics for Bruce.

Re: Off day offensive fun!
Interesting stat I found the other day regarding Heisey...having issues copying and pasting the table from baseball reference, but in a nutshell:
vs SP, 1st: .380 OPS vs SP, 2nd: .367 OPS vs SP, 3rd: .921 OPS vs RP, 1st: 1.348 OPS Tonight more of the same, 0-2 vs the starter. Luck, random variation, issues with starters, other? |
