8/23- Reds @ Giants

Phillips 4
Nix 7
Votto 3
Rolen 5
Edmonds 8
Bruce 9
Hernandez 2
Janish 6
Volquez 1

vs. Matt Cain (9-10, 3.11, 130 K, 1.16 WHIP)

I like this lineup quite a bit.

Lots of lefties and good defense across the board.

Re: 8/23- Reds @ Giants

Nix 5 for 11 with 1 HR vs. Cain.

Other notables:

Phillips 5 for 19, two doubles and 1 HR
Votto 4 for 15, 2 BB.
Rolen 2 for 4 one double

Stubbes 0 for 5 3Ks...perhaps that's why he's out but..
Edmonds 1 for 8 3 Ks not much better.
Bruce 0 for 4 3 BBs.

For what its worth, anyone who hasn't been to SF needs to go now. The most unique and beautiful city in the US. If circumstances allowed, I'd move there yesterday, and I am probably the furthest thing from a hippie there is.

I visited there about ten years ago, and the main thing I remember is the weather. While walking around downtown I kept having to put on and then take off my jacket every 5 minutes as the sun ducked in and out of the clouds. But yeah, neat city otherwise.

And Matt Cain frustrates me. His stuff doesn't seem all that overpowering or dominating, but you'll look up at the scoreboard in the 7th and he'll be tossing a 3 hit shutout. Hopefully the Reds can employ the same approach they had against Josh Johnson: disciplined at-bats with selective aggression mixed in. The Pirates are playing Pirate baseball against the Cards, so we need a win here to maintain the 3.5 game lead.

I work for a SF based company and am lucky enough to spend a week there every few months. It's a wonderful city.

Re: 8/23- Reds @ Giants

I am hoping Volquez really goes into this start with a chip on his shoulder. He currently is the weak link in the rotation and needs to use that as motivation. I know he will walk 3 or so guys, but the HR's have killed him. The Reds need this win. If just to demoralize the Cards on a daily basis.

It's bliss for us west coasters. I'm having a couple pints at the pub up the street from my house then walking home to make some dinner and watch the game.

I'm down for sure.

Now, how are you getting me the money for Cross Country plane tickets? Western Union?

Aaron Boone looks like he bought a suit off the rack at JC Pennys. Can't he/ESPN afford a tailor at least? What's up with that beard? Is he part of the not shaving until after the playoffs in support of the Reds?
