Re: Outfield question

Is there any particular reason Heisey's name has not appeared in this thread?

I consider Heisey a reserve OF who can fill in at all three spots. I'd like more offensive potential in LF.

.900 OPS with bad D isnt going to help you win more than a .800 OPS bat with great D, and the .800 OPS bat with great D will be easier to find.

Re: Outfield question

I know this isn't a minor league guy, or even a young guy. But, my guess is Walt signs a guy a notch below Werth or Crawford this offseason

I wouldn't be shocked at all if he doesn't target Ryan Ludwick this offseason. He plays solid D, and after a down half season in San Diego I could see Walt trying to get him for 2 years at around 10 million.

Yea, Ludwick isn't a free agent until after the 2012 season.

Re: Outfield question

Why is Yonder so heavy? I would like to see Yonder lose 15-20 lbs this offseason and really commit to becoming a respectable defensive outfielder.

He has the opportunity to come into ST as the favorite to be the everyday LF for a playoff team and the only thing holding him back is his speed to the ball in OF. If he lost some of the excess weight it would do wonders for his ability to play in the OF.

Re: Outfield question

The Reds website has him listed as 6'2", 210. I wouldn't really call that "heavy". Maybe he's just slow?

My driver's license says that I am 6'0 and 175, but the lady at the DMV doesnt actually weigh me when I go in to renew my license every couple of years.

Yonder is at least 30 lbs overweight by the looks of him. He is probably more like 230.

Alonso isn't really as overweight as you make it out to be. The guy has tree trunk legs. He just isn't going to get faster. The better question is, why can't Votto move to the outfield, where he doesn't have to do anything to 'be in shape' for it?

That's how it looks to me, just taking a look at some photos of him this year.
