Vern Ruhle pitched a four-hit shutout to get the win for the Astros. The only hits for the Reds were a leadoff infield single by Dave Collins in the first inning, a two-out double by Dave Concepcion in the fourth, a two-out single by Ron Oester in the fifth, and a leadoff bunt single by Collins in the ninth. Tom Seaver and Doug Bair combined on a three-hitter in a losing effort for the Reds. The only hits for the Astros were a two-out RBI single by Jose Cruz in the first inning, a leadoff double by Art Howe in the second, and a one-out double by Terry Puhl in the sixth.
