What's the lamest Fall Classic you remember? One where you said, "These are the two best teams. Wow." Just curious.

I don't think I've ever felt that way about any series, as I know it's not about being the best teams sometimes.

But the White Sox - Astros came the closest for me.

The Cardinals making their appearance in 2006 boasting 83 wins in the regular season didn't sit very well with me.

And then they won it, proving anything can happen in the postseason.

I believe it was 1973 when the Mets made the World Series against Oakland with a record just over .500. They had beaten the Reds in the NLCS when Dan Driessen proved he was definitely not a third baseman.

The '82 series comes to mind for me. I wasn't impressed with the Brewers. Harvey's Wallbangers seemed like a bunch of slobs with too much facial hair and too few unheralded starters. They were a real contrast to the Cards, who had better pitching and loads of speed.

Good question. I have no facts to back this up, but I remember thinking, "What are the Angels and Giants doing in the World Series?"

Much like Kal above mentioned, I have no real basis, but I recall the 87 series and thinking to myself....these aren't very exciting teams. Twins vs Cards.

1987 Cardinals vs Twins - Twins really?
1973 Mets vs A's - Both beat better teams in the playoffs.

That was a great Series IMO.

For me, I have a hard time even accepting Tampa bay as a real team.

The lamest was 1994.

As for the lamest matchup, I vote for the ChiSox/Houston yawner.

Yeah great series but I guess I was answering it as to the matchup itself, not the series.

Oh I disagree with this. The 82' Brewers had 3 HOF'ers (Yount, Molitor and Fingers). 3 guys that hit 30 plus HR's when that number actually meant something (Thomas, Oglivie and Cooper). They also had Ted Simmons behind the plate.
The pitching staff with Pete Vuckovich and Mike Caldwell as the two top starters was ok at best. But all in all I thought they were very worthy of playing in the WS.

I'm with you. The 1987 Series was a pretty good one. That Twins team was solid, with Puckett, Hrbek, Gaetti, Brunansky, Viola, Blyleven, Rearden.
