Box because he pitched so well as a starter and more advanced/less injury concerns vs guys like Guillon and Lotzkar.

Re: Who is Redszone's #11 prospect?

I went with Donnie Joseph.

His numbers profile as a premier closer and he's been lights out since being drafted. If Cincinnati brass doesn't think he profiles as closer, he'd be a lights out middle reliever/ set-up man.

As a midde reliever, think of Norm Charlton.

He won't be a closer. He doesn't have the fastball for it. Maybe a 7th/8th inning guy.

Scouting report says Joseph throws 91-94 mph. That's good enough, especially considering his 13.4 K rate.

Except that scouting report is either old or inaccurate. Joseph was mostly 90-92 this year. I have not seen him hit 94 MPH as a pro. Doesn't mean he hasn't or that he can't, but if he does, its quite rare. He is going to need to learn to throw his slider in the strikezone a little more often in order to keep his strikeout rate at a very high level from here on out. Guys at the lower levels chased it out of the zone quite a bit more than guys will in AA/AAA/MLB. I like him quite a bit, just not yet. He doesn't profile as a closer and if he doesn't, his value just isn't as high.

Joseph for me. A solid late inning lefty makes a bigger impact on a team than a utility guy, a 5th starter/swing man or 4th OF. The Reds do have some younger guys with potential for more, but Joseph is probably helping the Reds by 2012.

Let me ask you this: Do you really see a guy like Dave Sappelt as a 4th outfielder or do you just see him as a 4th outfielder because of who the Reds have?

I didn't pick B-Box because, yes, he did dazzle as a starter, but he's not a starter anymore.

Went with Box. I like Doug's assessment of him.

I've been a Duran guy...how far off the map has he fallen?

Well, Sappelt isn't on the board, so I'm not sure how that has anything to do with what I'm saying. However, if Sappelt can really play CF and his arm doesn't limit him to LF, I think he can be a useful every day player and I would put him in the 3 to 5 range on this list. If his arm limits him to LF or DH, he's not my cup of tea. For the record, I have Sappelt at number 8 and Joseph at number 5. Realistically, Joseph should probably be a little lower than 5, but I just don't trust putting guys who haven't played full-season ahead of a guy who is a lot closer who seems like he'll make an impact so I have him ahead of Y-Rod and Hamilton who, like Sappelt, I consider bigger question marks. The reason Sappelt is lower than those two on my list has everything to do with the arm. If the arm limits him to LF, he really won't even be that useful as a reserve.

Is it bad when some are projecting relievers in the top prospects thread?

Lotzkar. Dominant when healthy, and didn't throw up a 8.49 ERA in 22 games of AA and an 11.37ERA in AFL like Boxberger.

Re: Who is Redszone's #11 prospect?

Listen, the next guy that puts Sappelt down this year is gonna "throw hands" with me. The guy dominated the minor leagues this year for the Reds like no one we've seen in a long time. Lotzkar's had 2 surguries, Guillon's had surgury. Joseph, like Doug said, doesn't have the velocity that most think. Sappelt is a legit top 10 this year after what he did not to mention his rock solid defense. BTW, I went Lotzkar at 11!

Ha. Well, if it makes any difference, I am watching Back to the Future, so maybe I went back to the past and saw his name on a previous list? My bad, I can't read apparently.
