Phil Nevin appeared to injure his shoulder while attempting a diving catch today. He was taken to the hospital for X-rays.
The injury appeared serious. Nevin remained on the ground for 8-10 minutes before he was assisted off the field. Source: padres.mlb.com Padres left fielder Phil Nevin was injured Friday while making a diving catch in a game against the White Sox in Tucson. The injury appeared to be to his left shoulder but no official word was immediately available and Nevin was taken to the hospital for precautionary X-rays. Brian Daubach hit a pop fly to medium left field and down the line; Nevin made a long run and then dove to make a backhanded catch. Immediately he put up his hand, indicating that he was hurt. More than a dozen attendants gathered around, including manager Bruce Bochy and his teammates. Nevin remained on the ground for eight-10 minutes before he was assisted off the field. The White Sox scored on the play, which was ruled a sac fly to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
