the two games against the cards would be pretty large without the giveaways. why not put them against a lesser team in order to encourage more folks attend then?

Probably because the giveaways are typically on home weekends. Just about every home weekend has a giveaway. Giveaways are rarely done midweek, especially if its something kids might want. I'd gather the marketing guys would rather use them to try to help bring in huge gates on the weekends and make sure they give away all their stock rather than have one on a weeknight and risk having pallets of the stuff left over.

The article says the other 2 bobbleheads will be Dusty and Gomes.

That should spur some discussion. Dusty's will have a toothpick and Gomes will be adjusting his helmet.

Quote:
Reds fans also will see some new twists this year on bobbleheads and other promotional freebies:

Dusty Baker bobblehead: The Reds manager will be depicted with the ever-present toothpick in his mouth, and the bobblehead includes an attached toothpick holder. (July 2 vs. Cleveland).

Jonny Gomes bobblehead: The outfielder will be at bat, adjusting his helmet. "His right arm will actually move to show the 'adjusting' action," Rollins says. (July 23, vs. Atlanta)

After having a couple talks with Gomes, it really wouldn't surprise me if it turns out that he nagged the marketing people to get that bobblehead.
