Because for some people, hats are a fashion accessory, and are used accordingly. A lot of people think of hats as no different than a properly colored belt or shoes. Is it a bit weirder since he's a professional athlete? Maybe...but I dont have a problem with it.

i dont see the big deal in it? hes wearing it to match his outfit which also happens to be black/white. and its not to/from a game.
