Fanhouse's Top 100 Prospects

#8 - Aroldis Chapman
#49 - Devin Mesoraco
#59 - Billy Hamilton
#69 - Yonder Alonso

Frankie Piliere is holding a chat at 2:00 to discuss his list.

Mesoraco is too low, IMO.

Whither Yorman? If Hamilton is that high (and, IMO, he should be), then Yorman should be just ahead or behind him. (I'd argue slightly behind, as he's not yet proven his plate discipline is good enough going forward and his position is less desirable.)

I also think Alonso is too high. But I could definitely be wrong about that. (Wait-and-see mode applies, at this point.)

Re: Fanhouse's Top 100 Prospects

My problem with the Mesoraco ranking is what is said about him, and then what is said about the player directly in front of him.

Mesoraco
Quote:
Last year was likely Mesoraco's best season as a pro. He showed off the variety of things he can do on a baseball field. He has the tools to stick behind the dish and provide plus big-league power. That combination obviously isn't easy to find.
The player in front of him
Quote:
Lee is a wild card in that he will need some time to develop as a hitter. Considering his flashy tools on the basepaths and in the field, he is the type of guy with which you remain patient.
Lee is a shortstop, but that doesn't get him any positional advantage over a catcher. IT seems that Mesoraco's report says he is better now and should be quite good in the future as well. How does Lee get ranked ahead of him with those two statements?

Still think Hamilton is too high. Alonso is too low.

Re: Fanhouse's Top 100 Prospects

Where did he have Mes last year? Outside the top 100 I'll assume, he may be hesitant to raise the ranking of any prospect very far in any 1 given season. A "lets get him at the mid-point in the top 100 now, then if he repeats last year's stats, we'll move him into the top 10 and call him a future all star"

Fanhouse ranked the Reds farm system as the 6th best in baseball...

Aroldis Chapman still having prospect status is a pretty good place to start for any farm system. But beyond that, having studs like Billy Hamilton, Yasmani Grandal and Yonder Alonso on the way sure doesn't hurt either. The Reds have talent up and down the ladder as they continue to draft smart and do their share of work in the international market

Strange that they mention Grandal (who is unranked by them) over Mesoraco (who they rank #49) in that blurb.
