Have Grandal burned at the stake on suspicion of him making a deal with the devil.

I harbor a perhaps irrational dream that Grandal could someday handle 3b.

Why move either off catcher? Platoon them. If you need a breather at 3B (Grandal) or 1B, use both in the lineup in order to rest a regular. How cool would it be to have two well above average slugging catchers at the mlb level?

I don't know if throwing a few bucks at local charities in Lynchburg would have been legal, but that may have been in their favor as well. As it is, the Reds are in the crappiest park in the minors. That is unacceptable.
By that line of thinking the Reds could have, and probably should have, stayed in Chattanooga in AA ball.

I guess I'm not getting the point between the Advanced A and AA situations in your statement. Taking the discussion all the way out, the Reds AA are going to end up in a brand new park next year in Florida. They will reduce league travel costs tremendously in doing so. In hindsight, that's not a bad deal. I've got believe the buyers of the franchise plan on keeping the Reds there if they can.

Because if both have bats that could play elsewhere, you are getting a combined 900-1000 at bats instead of a combined 600-700.

Huh, what? I've not heard anything about the Reds AA going to a Fla. location. Where?

Pensacola in 2012. Two brothers bought the fanchise and are building a new park there.

The point is: IF.... as in, if my aunt had....you know the rest. The Reds didn't, so they are now where they are.

The platoon of Grandal and Mesoraco would be great offensively-- for a catcher. Unfortunately, neither profiles as anything other than a solid (or better) hitting catcher.

Unless I missed something?

My first post on Reds Zone to say I really like what Grandal brings to the table. I think he'll be a top 100 prospect by June.

I think you are missing something if you only think Mesoraco profiles as a solid hitting catcher.

Re: Yasmani Grandal to start season in Double-A

Link?

From what I've read, he profiles as a 250-260/330-350/450 guy. (That's assuming his 2010 is for real and not his previous couple seasons.)

That's great for a catcher.

Not so much for any other spot he might be able to play.

I don't have a link. It is an opinion. FTR, an .800 OPS catcher is more than solid. An .800 OPS for a third baseman will get it done if they are ok defensively as well. Still, I think Mesoraco is closer to an .850 guy.
