Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
I wouldn't lose any sleep over trading away Ryan Hanigan, that's for sure. This club absolutely has to explore trading from their strengths (catching, stocked minor league system) to address some of the glaring holes (LF, SS, No. 1 starter)

Agreed and since this proposed trade does none of that, I just say "no".

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
The guys on the Rays they're talking aren't real difference makers. That's like adding Rheal Cormier to fix a bullpen or Brian Moehler and Sean Estes to fix a rotation.
You want to make a splash, take a look at guys like Erick Aybar or Wilson Betemit and up, at minimum.

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
how about trading Hanigan or Hernandez for help elsewhere and then calling us Mes?

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
I agree....but Alex Cobb, while good, is not a number 1 starter. And Kelly Shoppach isn't something we need. If we're going to deal a catcher, I'd prefer it be Hernandez. But if it's Hanigan...then Mesoraco has to be our #1...certainly no need for Shoppach.

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
The writer suggest that the Astros trade Hunter Pence. If the Astros agree with this, who would you trade to make him a Red?

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
I stopped reading after the author suggested the Mets trade Beltran to the Ms.

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
Try to build a package of prospects without the catchers or Alonso. Frazier + one or two lesser guys. Except that guy thinks he is worth Dom Brown, which is a little much.

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
To be honest, these were the most realistic trade proposals I have seen on ESPN.com in awhile. However, that's like saying it was the sanest thing Charlie Sheen ever said.

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
The catchers & Alonso are exactly what the Astros don't need. So that won't be a problem. They're best 2 young players are Jason Castro (c) and Brett Wallace (1b) IMO. As for their needs...restocking the farm system. So mid to low level guys with solid upsides are most likely what they'd be seeking. They're not going to be very competitive in the next 2-4 years most likely, so MLB ready guys aren't going to be a necessity IMO. But maybe one MLB player to offset the salary issues might be in order. A replacement temporarily for the OF....Gomes?

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
No to the Hannigan trade. That would hurt us more than it would help us.
We can't run Hernandez out there everyday. Why would we want Shoppach if he stinks? Never heard of Cobb, but based on that article, I find it hard to believe he's any better than LeCure or Leake.

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
If a catcher is going to get dealt it will be Hernandez.
I don't think either will be dealt though. Ramon will leave in the offseason as a type A. |

Re: ESPN - 5 trades to make
Love his research on Arroyo. Talking about dumping him from the rotation because he has been horrible, glad he made that conclusion after the 9 runs in 3 IP bumped his E.R.A. from 4.11 to the mid 5's.
Overall though I thought those were some pretty solid trade proposals that make sense for both side. The M's are 1 game under .500 and not far out with a putrid offense, Beltran would definitely help. Cobb has some good looking minor league numbers. Mez is hitting well enough to get a call up.
