Bat Joey Votto leadoff
Another 2 walks by Joey last night and still batting .330 despite not getting anything to hit. Crazy idea or not? He can't hit HR's, doubles, or singles being pitched around. And Rolen is not getting it done.
Do you really think opposing pitchers want to walk him to start the inning or game? New lineup: Votto 1B (LH) Phillips 2B (RH) Bruce RF (LH) Matt Kemp LF - gotta trade for this guy (RH) Hernandez/Hanigan C (RH) Stubbs CF (RH) Rolen 3B (RH) Janish/Renteria SS (RH) Heisey K"s 3 times last night. Lewis batting .269. Gomes batting .194. We need a legit LFer to spark this offense.

Re: Bat Joey Votto leadoff
Good post, Vottomatic.
I've actually been wondering why not hit him second at least.

Re: Bat Joey Votto leadoff
Sure they won't. Centerfielder always bats first on Dusty's teams.
![]() Seriously. When they tried to get Bruce going a few times, they batted him first to get him some good pitches. EXACT SAME PHILOSOPHY.

It worked for Evan Longoria.

I'd rather bring up Alonso and bat him leadoff.

Re: Bat Joey Votto leadoff
What's the big deal about lineup construction? It's only guaranteed to work the way you want it to for the first inning when you get your 1-2-3 guys up.. After that, anything goes.

Re: Bat Joey Votto leadoff
It's a great idea if you want him to hit without runners on base

Re: Bat Joey Votto leadoff
It's not as bad an idea as it seems to be. But I go for batting him 2nd. Bruce 3rd. The higher up, the more ABs. and late in the game with the 8th and 9th hitters being pinch hit for, there WILL be men on base for Votto.
He is being neutralized....something has to be done. Now, of course if Bruce continues to rake, it's all moot. But they WILL get more ABs if moved up a notch. |

Re: Bat Joey Votto leadoff
Hitting in front of Bruce (4-hole) was working well and Krusty goes and moves Rolen back to the 4-hole. Go figure that one out.

Re: Bat Joey Votto leadoff
I think we need Votto's bat to drive in runs, which would be the only real issue there. Votto has some speed on the basepaths, but not the kind that a lot of people look for in a leadoff hitter, which is where that problem would come in.
