Re: Friday June 17, 2011 Minor League Updates

The Mudcats had thrown 22 consecutive innings without giving up a run until a few minutes ago. I started to post earlier but didn't want to jinx the guys.

Eric Campbell is 2-4 tonight with a double and home run. The guy is batting .302. He is getting comfortable at the plate with additional playing time. His glove was already getting it done. If he continues to hit this guy is going to be a lot of fun to watch.

No pitching in Dayton tonight. Dragons lead 14-9 going to the bottom of the 6th.

No his head hurts. Concussion symptoms. MRI was negative.

Thompson really pitched well tonight. His change was 20 MPG slower than his fastball and it was making guys look silly.

Looking at his numbers at A+ this year, it's ridiculous it took this long for him to get a legit chance with a struggling Carolina team. Hopefully he continues to mash. The Reds definitely need quality depth at 3B. Rolen is done after 2012 IMO. Francisco is the likely successor, but he's so inconsistent (offensively and especially defensively) that he's far from a sure thing. I was hoping Frazier was the 3B of the future, but he hardly plays there because of Francisco. I'm just very intrigued with Campbell. How is his defense? I've just followed his stats closely, but have never seen him play. (Oh, I see you say his D was already impressive. Was he also good defensively this season at Bakersfield?)

Love your updates, GOYA. Thanks as always ... and great to see the Bats win a close one. Thompson is still very young and has the chance to be a decent No. 5 MLB starter.

Odd that, over the last couple days, Dayton has been hitting like crazy--what's gotten into those boys?--and Carolina has been pitching. Meanwhile, Travis Webb extends his streak of being fairly remarkable over the past month. Unfortunately, Boxberger had a rare off night, and it cost the Mudcats.

Am really impressed with Duran's progress.

Question to any one who has seen recent Hamilton AB's, is there a noticable difference that Hamilton has made recently (regarding swing mechanics/plate approach) or is he just seeing the ball well right now? Is he still switch hitting?

Re: Friday June 17, 2011 Minor League Updates

Maybe I place too much faith in minor-league managers, especially at the lowest levels, but when a kid who just turned 17 is batting cleanup for the DSL Reds, in spite of hitting only .163, it suggests that somebody really likes him. RF Aristides Aquino, who is 6-foot-4, hit his second HR today. A guy to be curious about, at the least.

The HR that Donald Lutz hit was an absolute BOMB

It hit halfway up the awning that covers the party deck in left center field
